UAE Media Council Affirms Media's Crucial Role In Nation's Sustainable Development
Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office (NMO) and UAE Media Council, led the Council's regular meeting in Ajman. The session reviewed updates on strategic projects and initiatives.
During the meeting, the Council discussed the regulatory framework for multilingual media content standards. These standards define rules for media professionals and content publishers in the UAE, aligning with Federal Decree-Law No. (55) of 2023 concerning media regulation. They aim to preserve values and protect society, especially youth, from intrusive behaviours.
Sheikh Abdulla emphasised that legislative achievements in the media sector aim to regulate and stimulate growth. This creates a competitive environment capable of keeping pace with global changes. He highlighted the importance of balanced content that speaks logic, transparency, and reason.
The Chairman underscored the significance of strategic partnerships with various media entities within the country. He praised the collaboration between the UAE Media Council and the Emirati Talent Competitiveness Council (ETCC) to launch the ‘Media Apprenticeship’ programme. This initiative aims to build a new generation of national media leaders.
The Council also reviewed steps to implement the media regulation law and its executive regulations. They discussed key developments in major initiatives during the first half of 2024. These initiatives focus on attracting young Emirati talent, enhancing local content creation, and designing training programmes for community members to become experts in the field.
Sheikh Abdulla stated that UAE leadership believes in the active role of media in supporting comprehensive development. He stressed that distinctive media should address global challenges while adapting to keep pace with global trends.
Achievements and Participation
The meeting included a review of reports on UAE's participation in international festivals. The UAE won 17 awards at the Gulf Radio and Television Festival in Bahrain and secured 4 awards at the Arab Radio and Television Festival.
The Council discussed enhancing media's role in promoting positive values worldwide. They aim to spotlight constructive ideas, encourage talent, deliver credible messaging, and provide accurate information aligned with Emirati values.
Regulatory Framework
The regulatory framework aims to ensure published content respects social and cultural traditions of UAE society. It contributes to developing an aware and responsible generation by preserving societal values.
The meeting was attended by several prominent members including Sheikh Abdullah bin Humaid Al Qasimi; Saeed Mohammad Al Eter; Maryam Eid AlMheiri; Mona Ghanem Al Marri; Nasser Muhammed Al Yamahi; Dr. Saeed Saif Al Matroushi; Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi; and Maitha Majed Al Suwaidi.
The Council's efforts are geared towards strengthening UAE's position on the global media map through various strategic initiatives targeting young talent and local content creation.
