UAE and Lithuania Forge Partnership to Boost Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security

In a significant stride towards bolstering sustainable agriculture and food security, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) of the United Arab Emirates has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania. This partnership, formalized at the MOCCAE headquarters in Dubai, underscores a mutual commitment to developing sustainable food systems and fostering agricultural exchange and investment. The MoU was signed by Mohammed Saeed Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of MOCCAE, and Vytenis Tomkus, Vice-Minister at the Ministry of Agriculture of Lithuania.

This collaboration is set against a backdrop of shared agricultural interests between the two nations, with a focus on exchanging knowledge and best practices in areas such as organic agriculture, sustainable food systems, climate-smart agriculture, food safety, and plant and animal health. Mohammed Saeed Al Nuaimi highlighted the UAE's efforts to collaborate with global stakeholders in modern agriculture to enhance national food security. He emphasized the importance of this partnership with Lithuania in leveraging food systems to tackle climate and food security challenges concurrently.

UAE-Lithuania Pact for Green Agriculture

The MoU encompasses a broad spectrum of cooperative endeavors. These include sharing expertise on organic agriculture, sustainable farming practices, soil improvement techniques, climate change mitigation, nature conservation, and ensuring the quality and safety of agricultural products. Furthermore, it aims to boost research and collaboration between universities or research institutes and leverage technology in sectors of mutual interest.

Al Nuaimi expressed optimism about the collaboration's potential to enrich the sustainability of local agricultural products and empower local farmers through knowledge transfer. This partnership not only aligns with both nations' agricultural goals but also represents a significant step towards addressing global challenges related to climate change and food security through international cooperation.
