UAE Libraries Forum Launches In Sharjah To Enhance Cultural And Digital Library Services

The UAE Libraries Forum began today, with Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority, in attendance. This two-day event aims to enhance libraries' roles in promoting culture and knowledge. It also explores digital transformation and innovation within this rapidly changing sector.

Sheikha Bodour inaugurated the Manuscripts Exhibition at the Sharjah Book Authority headquarters. Organised by the Emirates Library and Information Association, this exhibition showcases 21 manuscripts and rare books. These pieces are significant to Arab and Islamic cultural heritage.

UAE Libraries Forum Kicks Off in Sharjah

The exhibition highlights the historical and artistic importance of each manuscript. They cover various fields like literature, jurisprudence, science, and philosophy. Restoration efforts and modern technologies for digital access were emphasised to ensure accessibility for future generations.

Sheikha Bodour toured the forum, engaging with exhibitors and institutions displaying their library services and innovative projects. The exhibition encourages collaboration among local and international entities, showcasing the latest digital solutions aimed at advancing library services.

Several partners were honoured by Sheikha Bodour for their support of the association's initiatives. These included the Ministry of Culture, Sharjah Book Authority, National Library and Archives, Department of Public Interest Associations at the Ministry of Community Development, Social Services Department in Sharjah, Sharjah Public Libraries, Maktaba, House of Wisdom, Mohammed bin Rashid Library, and Emirates Publishers Association.

The forum features panel discussions on topics like cultural heritage protection and challenges faced by libraries in smart societies. It also covers global experiences in digital transformation within libraries. These discussions aim to find innovative solutions to enhance library services amid rapid global digital changes.

Building a Knowledge Society

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the Emirates Library and Information Association to strengthen libraries' roles in the UAE. It focuses on developing services that meet modern demands while building a sustainable knowledge society. Innovation is key to positioning libraries as pillars in spreading culture and knowledge.

The forum seeks to foster collaboration among library professionals through communication channels that highlight new technologies. By doing so, it aims to improve user experiences in response to accelerated global digital transformation.
