UAE Determined To Become Global Media Industry Leader, Abdulla Al Hamed States
Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office (NMO) and Chairman of the UAE Media Council, highlighted the UAE's advanced infrastructure and supportive legal environment as key factors in attracting global media platforms, startups, and international investment. He emphasised the UAE's role as a hub for international media and a launchpad for startups.
During a visit to Dubai Media City, Sheikh Abdulla explained that the UAE Media Council collaborates with local media organisations and free zones to develop adaptable policies. These policies aim to empower media companies and creatives, fostering the expansion of the UAE's media scene and generating high-quality media content that enhances the nation's international standing.
"The UAE's media sector is experiencing a growth surge, and we're leading the charge by crafting forward-thinking plans to propel its development," Sheikh Abdulla stated. His visit included Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary-General of UAE Media Council; Malek Al Malek, CEO of Dubai Holding Asset Management (DHAM); Maitha Majed Al Suwaidi, CEO of Strategy and Media Policy at the UAE Media Council; Abdulla Belhoul, CEO of TECOM Group; and Majed Al Suwaidi, Senior Vice President at TECOM Group.
Sheikh Abdulla toured several media startups operating at in5, an enabling platform for entrepreneurs and startups. He commended these startups for their role in boosting the national economy, driving innovation, and exporting creative products from the UAE to the world. This visit underscored the importance of nurturing new ventures in the media sector.
He also reviewed TECOM Group's track record in fostering Dubai's knowledge economy. By focusing on six key sectors – information technology, media, science, education, design, and industry – TECOM Group has positioned Dubai as a global hub for businesses and talent. This strategic focus has been instrumental in attracting diverse enterprises to the region.
Dubai Media City's Role
Dubai Media City plays a crucial role in driving Dubai's ambitious media and content creation strategy. As the region's largest media hub, it houses over 2,500 media entities. This thriving community includes more than 20,000 employees and entrepreneurs, making it a pivotal force in the local media landscape.
