Human Fraternity And Tolerance In The AI Era: UAE Leader Seeks Global Cooperation

The Global Tolerance and Human Fraternity Conference in Abu Dhabi highlighted how artificial intelligence should support peace, stability and sustainable development. Speakers agreed that technology alone cannot direct the future, and stressed that human fraternity, tolerance and coexistence must remain the basis for progress in societies worldwide.

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, said the UAE believes these principles are essential for security and long-term development. Sheikh Nahyan stated that such values must guide every stage of advancement, including advanced digital systems, so that innovation strengthens trust, social cohesion and human dignity.

The minister opened the conference, held under the theme "Human Fraternity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence", and explained that artificial intelligence should reinforce, and not weaken, human fraternity. Sheikh Nahyan argued that conscience, wisdom and respect for every person must shape technology’s development and its use across public and private institutions.

The event, organised by the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence and the Muslim Council of Elders in cooperation with TRENDS Research & Advisory, coincided with the International Day of Human Fraternity. More than 180 international speakers and over 400 religious leaders, thinkers and other participants attended discussions in Abu Dhabi.

Sheikh Nahyan said the conference has grown into an annual international forum that supports tolerance and human fraternity while addressing worldwide challenges. The minister pointed to artificial intelligence influencing decision-making, education, social interaction and governance, and called for ethical design and responsible oversight so that such tools remain firmly directed toward serving people.

Recalling the 2019 Abu Dhabi Document on Human Fraternity, Sheikh Nahyan reaffirmed that the UAE leadership supports shared human values across cultures and religions. The minister emphasised that innovation and new technologies must support peace and mutual trust, while keeping human dignity at the centre of policy, regulation and long-term planning.

The opening session also heard from Atifete Jahjaga, former President of the Republic of Kosovo, who said it was inspiring to see global participants gathering in the UAE, which she described as a global symbol of ambition, cooperation and a commitment to an approach to artificial intelligence grounded in knowledge and human values.

Atifete Jahjaga said the meeting in Abu Dhabi was not limited to listing difficulties, but focused on designing shared tools that become practical plans and innovations delivering common benefits. Jahjaga noted that this work comes during a period of strong worldwide acceleration driven by technology, which requires coordinated responses among governments and societies.

She also highlighted the need to agree on shared global ideas of what humanity means, so that policies reflect a common understanding. Jahjaga added that diversity should act as a driver for solutions and human wellbeing, reinforcing the conference message that inclusive values and ethical artificial intelligence can support stability and development.
