UAE's Humanitarian Approach Demonstrated Through Relief Missions In Myanmar And Afghanistan

The UAE's commitment to humanitarian aid is evident through its active participation in relief missions worldwide. From Myanmar to Afghanistan and Albania, the UAE Joint Operations Command and the UAE Search and Rescue Team have consistently demonstrated their dedication to humanitarian causes. Their efforts highlight the country's ethical and civilisational values.

Following directives from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE teams swiftly moved to support Afghanistan after an earthquake struck Kunar and Nangarhar provinces. The disaster resulted in over 1,000 deaths and 2,800 injuries. The teams coordinated with local authorities to enhance rescue operations, expand response capabilities, and provide logistical support.

In addition to on-ground assistance, the UAE's Emirates Red Crescent dispatched urgent relief supplies to Afghanistan. These included essential goods, medical items, and shelter tents for earthquake survivors. This swift response underscores the UAE's commitment to providing timely humanitarian aid in crisis situations.

The UAE's humanitarian efforts extend beyond Afghanistan. In Myanmar, a search and rescue team was deployed following a 7.7-magnitude earthquake on March 31. The team worked across six affected sites alongside local authorities and international teams. Their vital contributions were recognised by the Myanmar government.

The Albanian government recently honoured the UAE Search and Rescue Team for their role in extinguishing wildfires in regions like Gramsh, Ballolli, and Vlore. Starting on August 12, this mission involved skilled personnel, aircraft, and firefighting equipment. Mohammed Al Sharif from the Ministry of Defence noted that they conducted 700 water-drop operations using around 1,300 tonnes of water and fire retardant.

Beyond these missions, the UAE has provided significant aid to other countries as well. In January, Chad received 30,000 food baskets and over 20,000 blankets for flood-affected communities. Somalia benefited from 700 tonnes of urgent food supplies for flood victims.

Continued Support Across Regions

The UAE also announced emergency relief for Yemen on September 1 for families affected by floods along the West Coast. This ongoing support showcases the country's dedication to assisting those in need across various regions.

Moreover, the UAE remains committed to delivering aid to Palestinians in Gaza through land, sea, and air routes. This sustained effort ensures that essential assistance reaches those who need it most.

The UAE's extensive humanitarian initiatives reinforce its leading role in international relief efforts. By providing timely aid across different regions, the country continues to strengthen its global partnerships while upholding its ethical commitments.
