UAE Showcases Its Sports Prowess With Major Global Events In December 2023

The UAE is experiencing a surge in sports activities this December, with numerous international tournaments and events taking place. This highlights the nation's organisational capabilities and advanced infrastructure, solidifying its status as a global sports hub. These events are spread across various emirates, showcasing the UAE's readiness for sports investment and tourism.

Abu Dhabi initiated the month by hosting the 16th Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit. This event drew a worldwide audience, emphasising Abu Dhabi's role as a key player in the sports world. The emirate also hosted several other major events, including the 6th ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon and the 2024 UCI Urban Cycling World Championships.

UAE Hosts Major Sporting Events This December

In Sharjah, the Sharjah Grand Prix marked the final round of the 23rd Formula 1 Powerboat World Championship season at Khalid Lagoon. Nineteen top drivers participated, creating an exciting atmosphere that boosted tourism in the emirate. Additionally, the Sharjah Kalba Arabian Horse Festival featured 242 horses from various stables nationwide.

Dubai was also a significant venue for numerous important events. These included the inaugural Sport Impact Summit (SIS) 2024, attended by 200 global sports decision-makers. The Dubai Fitness Championship showcased top athletes worldwide, while the Dubai World Obstacle Championship saw participation from 1,170 athletes globally.

The Dubai Grand Prix for XCAT Powerboats concluded its 2024 world championship season. The Artistic Swimming World League featured competitors from 15 countries. The Sir Churchill Polo Cup at Al Habtoor Polo Club served as preparation for the upcoming Dubai Silver Cup.

The month in Dubai wraps up with two significant events: the Dubai International Sports Conference and Globe Soccer Dubai Awards on December 27th. Following this, on December 29th, is the First Salam Cycling Race, one of the largest community sports championships highlighting Dubai’s natural landmarks.

Liwa International Festival: A Winter Highlight

The Liwa International Festival (LIWA 2025), held in Al Dhafra from December 13th to January 4th, has become a key winter destination. It attracts camping enthusiasts and fans of traditional sports and motorsports from around the globe.

These sporting events significantly contribute to boosting the UAE's economy by attracting investments in sectors like hospitality, transport, and infrastructure. They also enhance tourism as thousands of visitors come to witness these championships while exploring diverse attractions across the country.
