UAE To Host Global Maritime Leaders At World Maritime Day Parallel Event In October 2025

The UAE is set to host the World Maritime Day Parallel Event 2025, organised by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure alongside the International Maritime Organisation. Scheduled from 30th September to 1st October, the event will focus on the theme: "Our Ocean – Our Obligation – Our Opportunity." It aims to gather global leaders and experts to discuss strategic maritime issues and promote sustainable practices in the industry.

Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, highlighted the significance of this event for the UAE. He stated, "The UAE’s hosting of this global maritime event marks a new milestone in our journey to solidify the country’s position as a global hub for the maritime transport industry and a preferred destination for innovation and technological advancement in this vital sector."

Al Mazrouei emphasised that the UAE has become a leading maritime hub due to its stringent regulations enhancing safety and environmental standards. The nation plays a crucial role in promoting clean energy alternatives within the maritime sector. This aligns with international efforts towards decarbonisation, supported by advanced solutions and technologies.

The UAE's strategic location at key global trade routes enhances its role in international supply chains. By developing integrated ports, free zones, and advanced logistics infrastructure, it acts as a commercial bridge between East and West. This development supports global trade efficiently and reliably.

Environmental sustainability is central to UAE’s maritime policies. Initiatives like the Green Recycling Yards project focus on eco-friendly ship recycling offshore. Additionally, green infrastructure supports low-sulphur fuel and natural gas supplies for ships. The use of biofuels and green methanol is also encouraged.

The UAE has established an integrated maritime system featuring the National Maritime Navigation Centre for 24/7 vessel traffic management. The National Single Window for Maritime Services streamlines electronic processing for ship operators, improving operational efficiency.

Focus on Human Capital

Human capital is vital for sustainable leadership in the maritime sector. The UAE has founded specialised academies such as Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy and Sharjah Maritime Academy. These institutions have produced 497 Emirati officers and engineers, including 100 women, now serving in leadership roles across various maritime sectors.

The adoption of digital solutions for maritime data exchange aligns with top international standards. Programmes are also in place to equip national talent with specialised knowledge, reinforcing the UAE’s status as an attractive environment for global investment.

Since joining the International Maritime Organisation, the UAE has committed to adopting best practices globally. It was among the first nations to ratify core conventions on safety and environmental operations, strengthening its position as a secure environment for maritime business investments.

The UAE's advanced ports and efficient logistics services have been pivotal in its economic growth over decades. These developments support its vision of becoming a central player in global trade while balancing economic growth with marine environmental protection.
