UAE Showcases Global Leadership At UN Sustainable Development Forum And Prepares For 2026 SDG Review
The UAE has reaffirmed its dedication to global sustainable development at the United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development 2025 in New York. The nation emphasised the importance of international partnerships and prioritising human progress within its vision for the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and beyond. This commitment was highlighted during an active UAE presence at the forum, organised by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
The UAE delegation included senior officials from key ministries and organisations such as the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Investment, Government Experience Exchange Programme (GEEP), General Secretariat of the National Committee on SDGs, Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD), Noor Dubai Foundation, and Dubai Chambers. These representatives showcased the UAE's innovative approach to international development cooperation.

Abdulla Nasser Lootah, Assistant Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Experience Exchange and Chair of the National Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, emphasised the UAE’s collaborative approach to development. He stated, "We presented models and initiatives that showcase pioneering national development initiatives and reflect the importance of strategic partnerships in accelerating SDG achievement." This includes initiatives like the 2045 XDGs Report and GEEP.
The UAE is also preparing for its 2026 Voluntary National Review (VNR), which will monitor progress towards achieving the 2030 SDGs. This preparation reflects a strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and comprehensive analysis. The review will involve government, private sector, and civil society participation to ensure integrated efforts towards a sustainable future.
The UAE's role in advancing global sustainability was further demonstrated through high-profile events such as the "Shaping Tomorrow: UAE Leadership for a Sustainable Future" exhibition. These events highlighted innovative models and fostered dialogue with global partners. A special session by GEEP expanded partnerships to nearly 50 countries and six international organisations.
The launch of the 2045 XDGs Report underscored the UAE’s active role in shaping sustainable development with forward-looking recommendations for future decades. This report outlines global development priorities beyond 2030, building on SDG momentum to address emerging challenges.
Promoting Gender Balance and Economic Growth
Sessions organised by the General Secretariat of the National Committee on SDGs focused on promoting gender balance, child welfare, addressing digital gender gaps, and strengthening women’s leadership as essential drivers of growth beyond 2030. The UAE also hosted discussions on reimagining economic growth for both people and planet.
Additionally, successful cross-border environmental initiatives were presented by the Ministry of Interior. One such initiative is the Green Shield Operation aimed at protecting biodiversity in regions like the Amazon Basin. Throughout these efforts, international cooperation was strengthened through numerous bilateral meetings.
Commitment to International Cooperation
The HLPF serves as a leading platform for reviewing SDG progress globally. During this forum, the UAE reinforced its commitment to international cooperation by holding 48 bilateral meetings and participating in impactful Science Day activities. These actions highlight its leadership in collaborative action towards sustainable development goals.
The UAE is also set to host significant events like the UN Water Conference in December 2026. This event aims to advance global water sustainability efforts further showcasing their dedication to fostering international collaboration for a sustainable future.
