UAE And European Council Leaders Aim To Boost Relations And Regional Peace

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan recently engaged in discussions with Charles Michel, President of the European Council, focusing on the relationship between the UAE and the European Union. The meeting, held at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi, aimed to explore ways to enhance these relations for mutual growth and prosperity.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed welcomed Mr Michel, highlighting the strong ties between the UAE and the EU. He reiterated their commitment to bolstering these relations to support shared goals and promote peace and development regionally and globally. Both leaders underscored the importance of cooperation in achieving these objectives.

The upcoming Gulf Cooperation Council-European Union summit in October in Brussels was also a key topic. His Highness and Mr Michel stressed its significance in advancing economic and developmental relations, setting a foundation for future progress. This summit is expected to be a pivotal moment for both regions.

The leaders reviewed several regional and international issues of mutual concern, particularly developments in the Middle East. They emphasised the urgent need for a ceasefire agreement in Gaza to facilitate humanitarian aid. They also highlighted the necessity of de-escalating tensions in the West Bank and pursuing a stable peace process based on a two-state solution.

Both sides expressed serious concerns about escalating tensions in the region. They called for international efforts to contain conflicts that threaten regional security and stability. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed reaffirmed the UAE’s support for initiatives aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza and promoting regional peace.

Charles Michel praised the UAE's supportive stance on Gulf-European cooperation and its significant humanitarian role in Gaza. He commended the UAE’s contributions to peace and stability in the Middle East, emphasising the EU’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the UAE on various shared concerns.

The meeting saw attendance from several high-ranking officials including H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi; H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs; Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Advisor for Special Affairs at the Presidential Court; Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; along with other Sheikhs and officials.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed highlighted the UAE's dedication to collaborating with the EU and other parties to enhance humanitarian responses in Gaza. He stressed that such cooperation is vital for supporting regional stability amidst ongoing conflicts.
