UAE And Estonia Forge Partnership To Bolster Food Security And Management

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) has recently entered into a strategic partnership with the Ministries of Climate and Regional Affairs and Agriculture of the Republic of Estonia. This collaboration, formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), is set to enhance joint efforts in food resource management and the adoption of technology-driven solutions to address pressing environmental and climate challenges.

The MoU signing ceremony was hosted at the MoCCAE headquarters, where Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment, and Madis Kallas, Minister of Regional Affairs and Agriculture, representing the Ministry of Climate of the Republic of Estonia, inked the agreement. This partnership marks a pivotal step in bolstering food security and contributing positively to the economies of both nations through the leverage of advanced technical solutions for sustainable natural resource management.

Dr. Al Dahak highlighted the UAE's commitment to deepening partnerships on shared priorities, especially in food security. The focus is on adopting advanced technologies and efficiently managing resources to align with carbon emission reduction goals and promote a sustainable future economy. "Working together is crucial for finding effective solutions," she stated, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with Estonia and other countries in developing innovative solutions for global food security.

The MoU aims to foster sustainable food systems by focusing on waste reduction, promoting digital agriculture solutions, and leveraging advanced technology for enhanced productivity. It also covers food safety improvement, crisis management, and disaster response capabilities enhancement.

As part of this collaboration, research and development initiatives will be undertaken to strengthen food security. This includes exchanging technical knowledge on trading conditions, restrictions, and procedures. The partnership will also explore implementing research and initiatives in smart, sustainable cities and nature-based solutions aimed at reducing energy usage while ensuring a high quality of life within an environmentally smart ecosystem. Additionally, it encompasses implementing human resources capacity development programs.

This MoU between MoCCAE and the Estonian ministries underscores a shared vision for a sustainable future through innovative solutions in food security and environmental management. By combining efforts and sharing knowledge and technology, both countries aim to make a significant impact on their economies and contribute positively to global sustainability efforts.
