UAE Delegation Engages In Significant Meetings During Third Day Of 79th UN General Assembly
The United Arab Emirates' delegation actively engaged in several significant meetings during the 79th UN General Assembly. Abdulrahman bin Mohamed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, took part in a High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). Here, member states reached a consensus on a Political Declaration addressing AMR. He also attended an event focusing on AMR challenges in migrant and refugee populations, praising progress and committing to collaborative efforts.
Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, held discussions with Catherine Russell, Executive Director of UNICEF. Meanwhile, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Special Envoy for Climate Change, along with Abdulla Ahmed Balalaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability, participated in the UAE-hosted COP Presidencies Troika Event. This event included the COP29 President and representatives from Brazil.
Sheikh Salem Al Qassimi, Minister of Culture, joined a UN Alliance of Civilisations panel on promoting peaceful societies through intercultural dialogue. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, was involved in the 2024 Global Centre on Adaptation’s "UNGA Leaders’ Dialogue: Global Partnership for Doubling Down on Adaptation Action." She also met with various UN and government officials concerning energy and environmental issues.
Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, attended a roundtable on boosting investment in African markets. He also participated in "Africa at an Inflection Point," a U.S. investor symposium by the Milken Institute and Invest Africa. During these events, he conversed with Hamza Abdi Barre, Prime Minister of Somalia; Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, Vice President of Equatorial Guinea; and several foreign ministers.
Ahmed Al Sayegh, Minister of State, was present at the Asian Cooperation Dialogue Ministerial Meeting. He also spoke at the BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting alongside Saeed Al Hajeri, Assistant Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs. Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar attended the Libya Senior Officials Meeting. Together with Sultan Al Shamsi, they participated in a ministerial meeting about Gaza's situation and implementing a Two-State Solution for peace.
Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh met with Sima Bahous from UN Women and Ambassador Wolfgang Brülhar regarding Middle East peace processes. Salem Saeed Al Jaberi represented the UAE at a high-level meeting focused on eliminating nuclear weapons globally.
Razan Al Mubarak engaged with the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy as part of her role as President of IUCN and UN Climate Change High-Level Champion from COP28. This marked UAE’s first involvement as a full member of this panel. Discussions centred around aligning UAE’s ocean conservation efforts with ongoing priorities like sustainable ocean planning.
Sheikha Shamma Bint Sultan Al Nahyan participated in Project Everyone's event titled "game-changers for education." Her involvement highlighted UAE's commitment to advancing educational initiatives globally.
The UAE delegation's active participation underscores its dedication to addressing global challenges through collaboration across various sectors such as health care, climate change adaptation strategies or investment opportunities within African markets while fostering peaceful societies worldwide through intercultural dialogues or sustainable development practices aimed at conserving natural resources effectively over time without compromising future generations' needs or aspirations towards achieving comprehensive peace solutions regionally or internationally alike!
