UAE Crown Prince H.H. Sheikh Khaled Leads Delegation At 17th BRICS Summit In Brazil
H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, led the UAE delegation at the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The summit was inaugurated by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil. This year's theme is "Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance." The event gathered leaders from BRICS countries, invited states, and various organisations.
During the summit, H.H. Sheikh Khaled delivered a message from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He conveyed greetings to participating nations and expressed hopes for successful outcomes in fostering balanced international partnerships based on cooperation and respect. He emphasised BRICS as a vital platform for mutual understanding and strategic alignment on global challenges.
The summit included a high-level dialogue session with BRICS leaders discussing key economic and development issues. Topics covered included cooperation among Global South nations, reforming governance systems, promoting local currencies in trade, transitioning to a green economy, climate finance mechanisms, and responsible AI governance.
H.H. Sheikh Khaled highlighted the importance of strong partnerships based on sustainable development and shared prosperity to advance mutual interests. He reiterated the UAE's belief in constructive dialogue and economic integration as pillars for global stability. The UAE supports expanding BRICS to enhance strategic cooperation among countries and organisations.
The dialogue session also stressed the need to strengthen partnerships in food security, health, and technology. It reaffirmed BRICS countries' dedication to inclusive and sustainable development to meet global aspirations. The UAE's participation in this summit marks its second time as a member of BRICS since its establishment in 2009.
BRICS was formed to boost political and economic collaboration among emerging economies. H.H. Sheikh Khaled underscored that addressing economic, humanitarian, and geopolitical challenges requires strategic convergence through platforms like BRICS.
