UAE's Content Economy Thrives Under Mohammed Bin Rashid’s Vision For Creators And Innovation
The UAE is advancing in the content creator economy, driven by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Mohammad Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, highlighted efforts to build a supportive environment for creators and related businesses. This initiative aims to foster partnerships and economic opportunities within the sector.
Al Gergawi noted that Sheikh Mohammed's philosophy involves proactive strategies and bold decisions. Over 25 years ago, in 1998, Sheikh Mohammed anticipated the future link between media and technology. He initiated Dubai Internet City in the desert, followed by Dubai Media City. Today, digital media connects over five billion people worldwide.

During his opening speech at the 1 Billion Followers Summit 2025, Al Gergawi welcomed attendees by emphasizing the UAE’s vision for a thriving content creation economy. The summit, organized by the UAE Government Media Office, runs from January 11 to 13 at Emirates Towers and the Museum of the Future in Dubai under "Content for Good." It features over 15,000 creators, more than 420 speakers, and 125 CEOs and experts.
The minister stressed transforming this sector into a sustainable economic force offering opportunities for youth and driving global progress. "The greatest gift humanity can offer is the ability to inspire, motivate, and create meaningful change," he stated. He highlighted storytelling's power to shape a better reality.
Al Gergawi outlined how the government supports individuals pursuing their passions and contributing to communities. Investing in content creation builds responsible youth and a humane society. Empowering creators means creating positive impacts that uplift communities. This aligns with Sheikh Mohammed's belief: "The strength and influence of media are measured by its ability to create tangible, positive change."
He acknowledged content creation's rapid evolution with technology revolutionizing consumption and creation methods. Innovations like virtual reality will enable immersive experiences and knowledge preservation for future generations.
Tackling Misinformation
Despite advancements, Al Gergawi warned about misinformation crises fueled by deep-fake technologies spreading fake content rapidly. In 2024 alone, fake content increased by 245%, spreading six times faster than factual information on platforms like X. "In today’s media landscape, illiteracy is not about reading and writing but about distinguishing truth from falsehood," he cautioned.
Addressing creators directly, Al Gergawi said: "This is where your responsibility lies—through your inspiring stories, valuable information, and enlightening ideas." He emphasized that meaningful content affects education, health, economy, family dynamics, personal wealth, and social relationships.
Al Gergawi concluded with a message to creators: "Your values are your compass. Your humility is your success. Your focus on serving people is your legacy. Creating better content is about creating a better life and a brighter future, and the best is yet to come."
