UAE's Clean Energy Investments Position It As A Leader In Global Sustainability Efforts

Ryan McPherson, Regional Director for the Middle East and Africa at the Energy Industries Council (EIC), praised the UAE's swift advancements in clean energy. He emphasised the country's comprehensive approach, which leverages solar, wind, green hydrogen, and carbon capture technologies. This strategy positions the UAE as a frontrunner in the global transition to sustainable energy.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), McPherson noted that the UAE is committed to expanding its renewable energy portfolio. Between late 2023 and mid-2024, it plans to add seven renewable projects worth $2.16 billion. These projects encompass various technologies, including energy from waste and geothermal energy.

UAE Strengthens Global Leadership in Clean Energy

By the end of this year, 13 solar power projects will be operational in the UAE. These projects are expected to contribute 10.6 GW to the national energy grid by 2024. "With its year-round solar potential, the UAE is set to expand its investments in solar energy, ensuring it meets its ambitious clean energy targets on schedule," McPherson stated.

The UAE aims to produce 1.4 million tonnes of hydrogen annually by 2031. This goal positions it among global leaders in green and blue hydrogen production. The initiatives align with the UAE's vision of becoming a global hydrogen powerhouse, focusing on large-scale projects and advanced technologies.

The nation is striving for a diverse energy mix under its "Energy Strategy 2050." A significant budget of $54 billion (AED200 billion) has been allocated until 2030 for this purpose. "This investment underscores the UAE's commitment to a more sustainable future," McPherson highlighted.

Strategic Roadmap for Sustainability

These strategies provide a clear roadmap for increasing reliance on renewable energy and advancing hydrogen technologies in the UAE. The focus remains on promoting clean and sustainable energy sources through innovative approaches.
