UAE And China Collaborate To Enhance Cooperation In Energy And Infrastructure Sectors

Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, recently visited China to enhance ties and cooperation in various sectors. During his visit, he met with key Chinese government officials and business leaders to discuss strengthening bilateral relations in energy, industry, and infrastructure.

In meetings with Lan Fo’an, China's Minister of Finance, and Liu Jianchao from the CPC's International Department, Dr. Al Jaber highlighted the UAE's dedication to expanding its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with China. He stressed launching initiatives that align with both countries' development goals, focusing on empowering national companies and fostering public-private collaboration for sustainable economic growth.

Dr. Al Jaber also engaged with senior executives from major Chinese firms like ZhenHua Oil and Wanhua. Discussions centred on enhancing cooperation in energy sectors such as renewables, oil and gas, LNG, refining, and petrochemicals. They explored investment opportunities in priority areas that align with shared interests in advancing industrial partnerships for sustainable development.

Meetings included talks with leaders from China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC). These discussions aimed at boosting global competitiveness through knowledge transfer and localisation efforts. The focus was also on strategic shipping and storage solutions.

The UAE-China trade relationship remains robust, with China being the UAE's largest trading partner. In 2024, bilateral trade surpassed US$100 billion, marking a 7% increase from the previous year. This growth was largely driven by an 18% rise in imports.

The first quarter of 2025 saw non-oil trade between the two nations grow by about 18% compared to the same period last year. This increase was supported by a 32.5% rise in exports, a 20.2% boost in re-exports, and a 12.7% growth in imports.

Dr. Al Jaber's visit underscored the importance of enhancing investments in industrial infrastructure projects that support technological partnerships between the UAE and China. These efforts aim to facilitate sustainable development while boosting both countries' global competitiveness.
