UAE And China Launch Qingdao Overseas Integrated Service Centre To Enhance $400 Billion Trade Relations

At the China-Arab Business Forum in Qingdao, the unveiling of the Qingdao Overseas Integrated Service Centre marked a significant step in enhancing the $400 billion trade relationship between China and the Arab world. The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Abdulla Albasha Alnoaimi, UAE Commercial Attaché to China, and Zeng Zanrong, a senior member of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee. This initiative is seen as a pivotal move to further cement the economic ties between these regions.

The formation of the Qingdao Overseas Integrated Service Centre is a collaboration between SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Co. Ltd. and Hisense Group, leveraging their extensive experience and influence in the Middle East. This Centre is set to act as a vital conduit for China-Arab economic and trade cooperation, enhancing the support for the overseas development of enterprises. It signifies a strategic effort to bridge the two regions through enhanced economic collaboration.

At the forum, Mohammed Saqib, Secretary-General of the China India Middle East and North Africa (CHIMENA) Business Council, highlighted the Centre's role in fostering economic cooperation. "The launch of the Qingdao Overseas Integrated Service Centre (QOISC) is a significant move that will play a significant role in accelerating the US$400 billion trade between the two growing economic blocks," he stated. Saqib also emphasized the Centre's potential to bring together the public and private sectors, thereby promoting trade, tourism, and cultural cooperation.

The event saw the signing of 40 significant projects, totaling $5.93 billion, in various industries including high-end equipment, new energy, and information technology. This demonstrates the forum's effectiveness in facilitating substantial agreements that contribute to the economic partnership between China and Arab countries.

The trade relationship between China and the Arab world is deeply rooted in history, dating back over 2,000 years. Throughout the centuries, especially during the era of the Islamic Caliphate and the Silk Route, this connection has only strengthened. In recent years, trade has been robust, with Saudi Arabia and the UAE emerging as key partners for China. In 2024, trade between China and Saudi Arabia reached $107.53 billion, while trade with the UAE saw a 7.2% increase, reaching $101.838 billion. These figures underscore the enduring and resilient nature of China-Arab trade relations.

China's strategic engagement with Arab states is indicative of its efforts to diversify international partnerships and reduce reliance on any single power, notably the United States. Chinese companies are actively involved in the Arab world, participating in energy, infrastructure, and manufacturing projects. This includes crucial investments in ports and industrial zones, which are instrumental in developing regional trade hubs.

The China-Arab Business Forum not only serves as a platform for discussing trade and economic cooperation but also acts as a catalyst for broader engagement. Attended by 465 multinational companies, including 135 Fortune Global 500 companies, the forum facilitated matchmaking sessions between more than 300 Chinese companies and businesses from Egypt, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. This level of participation underscores the forum's role in fostering international business relationships.

The CHIMENA Business Council plays a crucial role in promoting cooperation and understanding between China, India, and the MENA regions. Through its efforts, CHIMENA aims to enhance economic, social, cultural, and academic exchanges. By providing a platform for networking and partnership building, the Council enables its members to leverage mutual expertise and experiences for collective benefit.
