UAE Chairs 22nd Arab Electronic Media Committee Session In Cairo On Cybersecurity And Regional Media Initiatives

The UAE led regional talks on Arab electronic media, chairing the 22nd session of the Arab Electronic Media Committee at the League of Arab States headquarters in Cairo. Delegates focused on cybersecurity, online content, and the future direction of shared digital platforms.

The agenda placed strong emphasis on Resolution No. 566, adopted during the 55th ordinary session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers. Participants reviewed how countries implemented this decision and examined related recommendations concerning cybersecurity and the consolidation of Arab digital platforms.

Discussions covered how to reinforce Arab websites and platforms, with particular attention to protection from hacking and cyberattacks. Members also evaluated the structure and membership of the specialised cybersecurity committee responsible for safeguarding Arab online platforms and websites from digital threats across the region.

The meeting assessed findings from a working group that monitors electronic games featuring violent content or material that may encourage terrorism. Delegates studied the potential impact of such games on Arab societal security, while considering options for regulation and closer observation at the national and regional levels.

Representatives examined a proposed project for a comprehensive book on electronic media in the Arab world. The project aims to document the current landscape and identify ways to use digital tools more effectively at both media institution level and wider regional level.

The UAE delegation was headed by Somaya Al Ali, Director of Partnerships and International Cooperation at the UAE Media Authority. The session took place in the presence of Dr. Haider Al-Jubouri, Director of the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, alongside media representatives from Arab states.

The committee reviewed the UAE’s work to design and launch the website of the Arab Committee for Electronic Media. The UAE also outlined a training course for officials who manage member states’ pages, supporting collection of data and country-specific material for the site.

Further cooperation plans included a UAE proposal to host representatives of Arab ministries of information in 2026, in coordination with the General Secretariat. This initiative aims to deepen collaboration on Arab electronic media policies, cybersecurity practices, and shared digital projects across the region.
