UAE To Chair The 114th Session Of Arab Economic And Social Council For Enhanced Cooperation

The UAE is set to lead the 114th regular session of the Arab Economic and Social Council (AESC) starting tomorrow. The session, held at the General Secretariat of the Arab League, will continue until next Thursday. This gathering aims to address joint Arab cooperation in economic and social fields.

Preparatory meetings will commence with the Social Committee meeting. This committee will discuss various social topics, including the Arab Strategy for Lifetime Education and the role of social support in achieving equity and equal learning opportunities. Additionally, they will cover the Arab Decade for Literacy and Adult Education.

UAE Chairs Arab Council Session

International Arab cooperation in social and developmental fields will also be a key topic. Reports and decisions from ministerial councils and specialised committees will be reviewed. The committee will present an agenda item on the "Culture and Green Future" initiative and propose establishing volunteer centres for youth and retirees to serve the elderly.

The Economic Committee's meetings are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. They will focus on several economic issues, including the 2023 report on Arab food security. Follow-up on the implementation of the Arab Programme for Sustainable Food Security and the Agricultural Development Strategy for 2020-2023 will also be discussed.

Additionally, discussions will include the Arab Strategy For Sustainable Management Of Pastoral Resources 2020-2040 and the Aquaculture Strategy 2018-2037. The committee aims to improve performance in specialised Arab organisations by addressing related reports and decisions from ministerial councils and committees.

Senior Officials' Review

The senior officials' level meeting of the AESC is set for next Wednesday. During this session, officials will review recommendations from both social and economic committees. This review is crucial as it sets the stage for final decisions that aim to enhance regional cooperation.

The session concludes with a ministerial meeting where final decisions are adopted, approving all discussed recommendations. These meetings come at a pivotal time as member states strive to strengthen coordination to tackle economic and social challenges.
