UAE Honours Nuclear and Radiation Sector Workers on Professional Day
The United Arab Emirates marked a significant occasion today, observing the Professional Day of the Nuclear and Radiation Sector Workers. This day, sanctioned by the UAE Cabinet in January 2023, commemorates the pivotal moment on February 16, 2020, when the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) granted the operational licence for unit 1 of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant. The observance is dedicated to highlighting the accomplishments and relentless dedication of professionals within the UAE's nuclear and radiation sectors.
The Professional Day serves not only as a celebration of these workers' contributions but also as a recognition of their role in propelling the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Programme to international acclaim. The UAE has thus established itself as a benchmark for new entrants in the global nuclear domain. The event saw attendance from a broad spectrum of dignitaries, senior officials, and professionals from government bodies, the private sector, and academic institutions, all of whom have played a crucial role in advancing the nuclear and radiation sector within the nation.

In addition to acknowledging these contributions, the ceremony was an opportunity to honor distinguished professionals across various sectors—health, industry, security, emergency preparedness, customs, among others—for their exceptional achievements that align with the UAE’s vision for this sector. A highlight of the event was the official launch of the Emirates Nuclear & Radiation Academy (ENRA), a digital platform aimed at offering comprehensive training and development programs.
ENRA is set to play a vital role in disseminating scientific and technical knowledge related to nuclear and radiation practices. By addressing manpower needs and fostering a knowledge-based economy, ENRA's establishment on this significant day underscores a major step forward in nurturing a skilled workforce for the nuclear and radiation sector in the UAE.
The Professional Day of the Nuclear and Radiation Sector Workers not only celebrates past achievements but also looks forward to future advancements. Through initiatives like ENRA, the UAE continues to demonstrate its commitment to excellence and innovation in this critical field.
