UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Welcomes Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev To Discuss Bilateral Relations
UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan recently welcomed His Excellency Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, who visited the UAE for Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW). Sheikh Mohamed expressed gratitude for Aliyev's participation and congratulated him on Azerbaijan's successful hosting of COP29. He highlighted the role of Aliyev's leadership in the event's success and emphasised the UAE's commitment to global cooperation.
The meeting between Sheikh Mohamed and President Aliyev took place at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi. They discussed enhancing cooperation in various sectors such as economy, investment, development, renewable energy, and climate action. These discussions aim to promote sustainable development and prosperity for both nations. The leaders also explored key themes of ADSW, focusing on raising global awareness about sustainability challenges and opportunities.
Sheikh Mohamed highlighted the extensive collaboration between the UAE and Azerbaijan in renewable energy. He noted joint projects involving Masdar and SOCAR in wind and solar energy. This partnership underscores both nations' commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions. The discussions also covered a range of issues of mutual interest, with a focus on expanding cooperation with countries in the Caucasus region.
President Aliyev expressed appreciation for the invitation to ADSW and the warm hospitality extended by Sheikh Mohamed. He reaffirmed Azerbaijan's dedication to strengthening ties with the UAE across diverse sectors. Aliyev commended the UAE's efforts in fostering cooperation to address shared global challenges, particularly climate change.
The meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials from both countries. Among them were H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi; Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy; Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry; and other notable figures. Their presence underscored the importance of this bilateral engagement.
Earlier that day, President Aliyev arrived in Abu Dhabi and was received at the Presidential Airport by Sheikh Mohamed. Also present were H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State; Dr Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei; and Mohammed Murad Al Balushi, UAE Ambassador to Azerbaijan.
This visit highlights the growing relationship between the UAE and Azerbaijan as they work together on initiatives that benefit both nations economically and environmentally.
