On December 22, 2024, the one-millionth air traffic movement was marked by Emirates Flight 305 arriving from Shanghai. This event is a testament to the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre's success in adopting advanced technologies and achieving excellence in aviation. It reflects the UAE's strategic vision focused on leadership, innovation, and sustainability.

Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of GCAA, stated that this achievement is not just about numbers. He said it reflects the UAE's commitment to developing its aviation sector as a key part of its economy. "Under the guidance of our wise leadership, the UAE has implemented innovative national initiatives and strategies to enhance its competitiveness and prominence in the civil aviation and air services sector," he noted.

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of GCAA, praised the dedication of the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre team. He said that surpassing one million air traffic movements results from years of planning and collaboration with aviation partners. "Exceeding one million air traffic movements reflects the dedication and hard work of the team at the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre," he stated.

The Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre has integrated advanced systems to improve airspace efficiency while minimising delays. These efforts align with the "We the UAE 2031" vision and "The Year of Sustainability." The centre adopted sustainable practices to support national goals and reduce environmental impact.

The UAE has seen over 20% growth in air traffic over two years, among the highest globally. This growth is supported by advanced infrastructure, skilled workforce, and cutting-edge technologies. The country is well-prepared to handle even greater volumes in future years.

Commitment to Safety and Efficiency

The GCAA remains committed to enhancing systems and services to maintain high safety standards. With an average growth rate of 10.3% in 2024 compared to 2023, they aim for sustainable development in managing air traffic professionally.

This achievement underscores the UAE's capacity for innovative solutions that enhance aviation operations' efficiency. It strengthens global airlines' confidence in UAE services by ensuring safety and reliability standards are met.

The Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre’s legacy continues with this historic milestone. It demonstrates resilience amid global challenges like those posed by the pandemic while setting benchmarks for efficient airspace management worldwide.
