UAE AI Award Winners Honoured By Sheikh Mohammed During Annual Government Meeting
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, honoured the winners of the UAE AI Award. The ceremony took place in Abu Dhabi during the UAE Government Annual Meeting 2024. His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, was present at the event.
Sheikh Mohammed emphasised that artificial intelligence will significantly transform business and public service delivery. He stated, "Artificial Intelligence will radically change business and the delivery of public services, and we are determined to be at the forefront among countries adopting AI tools to accelerate government work."
The UAE AI Award was introduced last March by the UAE Council for Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain. It encourages federal, local, and semi-government bodies to adopt advanced AI applications. The award aims to set a national standard for AI use and foster innovative solutions that envision a future driven by digital innovation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs received recognition in the Service Excellence category for its Smart Mission project. This initiative offers AI-driven consulate services without human intervention. Initially launched at the UAE Embassy in South Korea, five more missions are planned over six months.
DP World was awarded in the Operational Efficiency category for its ‘Tanbeeh’ platform. Developed by Emirati talent, this AI-powered solution enhances readiness for swift response teams. It detects fires within five seconds using surveillance footage from Jebel Ali cameras.
The platform also monitors compliance with safety protocols and facilitates site access with 99% accuracy through facial recognition technology. Additionally, it analyses traffic patterns to predict congestion with up to 90% accuracy.
Decision-Making Advancements
The Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility) won an award in the Decision-Making category for its STEAM+ system. This integrated modelling and analysis tool advances Abu Dhabi Mobility by supporting informed decision-making and enhancing transportation investments.
STEAM+ processes over 70 billion data matrices using big data and AI. It categorises these matrices to support seamless decision-making by providing insights into current transportation patterns and forecasting future mobility developments across Abu Dhabi.
Emirati AI Solutions Celebrated
The Advanced Technology Research Council in Abu Dhabi secured the Emirati AI Solutions award for its Falcon language model. Developed by the Technology Innovation Institute, Falcon is a large generative language model designed for scalable application development.
This model is trained on an extensive web dataset enriched with curated sources. The Falcon LLM series is notable as the Arab world’s first language model competing with major tech companies like Meta, Google, and OpenAI.
