Turkish Pavilion Offers Diverse Reads At Abu Dhabi International Book Fair

The Republic of Türkiye is set to make a significant appearance at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2024, showcasing a vast pavilion filled with a wide array of publications designed to appeal to readers of all ages. This announcement comes from Nizar Kara, the Head of Publications Department and spokesperson for the Turkish Pavilion, during an interview with the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

Kara highlighted that Türkiye's participation in this year's fair is a direct follow-up to their successful involvement in the previous year, where Türkiye had the honour of being the guest country at the 2023 exhibition. This year, they return with a strong delegation representing the Turkish literature and publishing sectors, aiming to build on the foundations laid during their last appearance.

Diverse Turkish Reads in Abu Dhabi

One of the key aspects of Türkiye's participation is the emphasis on cultural exchange between the UAE and Türkiye. Kara stressed their commitment to enhancing this bilateral relationship through various initiatives. Last year's fair was particularly notable for Türkiye, featuring large pavilions and attracting over 20 publishers and writers from the country. It served as an excellent platform for organizing literary events and business meetings that fostered closer ties with Arab and Emirati publishers.

Furthermore, Kara pointed out the tangible outcomes of these interactions, including numerous copyright contracts and sales and purchase agreements signed during these engagements. This collaboration has also extended into the realm of translation, with Turkish books being translated into Arabic and featured prominently in several Arab pavilions. The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center has played a crucial role in this process, with around 20 Turkish books being earmarked for translation into Arabic.

This year's participation by Türkiye at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair underscores the ongoing cultural dialogue between Türkiye and the UAE. It reflects a mutual dedication to strengthening ties through literature and publishing, highlighting the importance of cultural exchange in fostering understanding and cooperation between nations.
