TRENDS Research & Advisory Organises Counter-Extremism Seminar At UK House Of Lords

A seminar at the UK House of Lords, organised by TRENDS Research & Advisory, focused on tackling extremism as a crucial measure for ensuring security and stability globally. The event underscored the necessity of addressing extremist ideologies and offering educational, economic, and social alternatives to curb radical ideas, particularly among youth targeted by extremist groups.

The seminar, titled "Strengthening the UK-Middle East and North Africa Partnership in Countering Extremism and Promoting Prosperity," was held for the second time in less than two months. It was honorarily sponsored by Lord Walney and attended by parliamentarians, researchers, and experts in counter-extremism. Lord Walney moderated the session, emphasising that extremism is a global threat needing a unified international strategy.

Counter-Extremism Seminar Held at UK House of Lords

Dr. Mohammed Al-Ali, CEO of TRENDS Research & Advisory, highlighted the importance of international collaboration in combating extremism and promoting tolerance. He noted that TRENDS is actively working to dismantle terrorist rhetoric through scientific analysis of extremist organisations' concepts and ideologies.

Lord Donald Anderson from the House of Lords delivered a keynote speech stressing the need for stronger cooperation between the UK and Middle East and North Africa regions to combat extremism. He also pointed out that research institutions play a vital role in analysing challenges faced by Western societies due to extremist ideologies.

The seminar stressed that countering extremism requires a comprehensive approach combining security measures with intellectual and technological solutions. This integrated strategy aims to ensure a safer future for everyone involved. The event featured notable participants such as Sir Liam Fox, Chairman of the UK Abraham Accords Group; Lady Olga Maitland, former UK Parliament member; Hannah Baldock, Editor of "Focus on Western Political Islam" magazine; Anna Stanley from the Middle East Forum; Tom Tugendhat from the Parliamentary Group for Countering Extremism; Daniel Kawczynski from UK Parliament; Aviram Belaishe from the Counter-Extremism Project; Awad Al-Breiki from TRENDS Global Sector; Abdulaziz AlShehhi from TRENDS Research Sector; Shama Al-Qutba; and Zayed Aldaheri.

The seminar's discussions highlighted that addressing extremism involves correcting extremist ideologies while providing viable alternatives to prevent radicalisation. This approach is especially crucial for young people who are often targeted by extremist groups.

This gathering at the House of Lords served as an important platform for discussing strategies to strengthen partnerships between regions like the UK, Middle East, and North Africa in their fight against extremism while promoting prosperity.
