Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike Strengthens UAE-Japan Relations During Visit To Falcon Hospital And Mangrove Park

Yuriko Koike, the Governor of Tokyo, recently visited the UAE to strengthen ties between Tokyo and Abu Dhabi. Her visit focused on cultural cooperation, digital transformation, wildlife protection, particularly falcons, and climate change challenges. She was accompanied by Shehab Ahmed Al Fahim, the UAE Ambassador to Japan, and a group of Japanese entrepreneurs as part of the "Startup Mission" initiative.

The delegation was welcomed by Ahmed Al Hashemi from the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD). He highlighted that this visit marks a significant step in UAE-Japan relations. It opens new opportunities for collaboration in sustainability and environmental protection.

Governor Koike Visits Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital

During her tour of the Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital, Governor Koike learned about the UAE's dedication to preserving falconry's cultural heritage and wildlife protection. Dr. Margit Muller explained the hospital's comprehensive healthcare procedures for falcons and its role in supporting biodiversity while promoting eco-friendly traditional practices.

The Governor expressed admiration for the UAE's efforts in safeguarding its natural heritage and participating actively in global environmental preservation initiatives. This reflects a shared commitment to protecting biodiversity and promoting sustainable practices.

Governor Koike also visited Jubail Mangrove Park, an environmental model showcasing Abu Dhabi's dedication to rehabilitating natural habitats and enhancing climate resilience. The park serves as a leading destination for environmental education and recreation, aiming to raise awareness about mangrove ecosystems.

Abdulla Saeed Al Shamsi from Jubail Island Investment Company guided her through the park. She learned about mangrove trees' crucial role in coastal resilience, marine biodiversity support, and acting as natural carbon sinks to combat climate change.

Commitment to Sustainability

In a symbolic gesture of friendship and cooperation between Japan and the UAE, Governor Koike planted a mangrove tree at Jubail Mangrove Park. This act underscores her commitment to joint environmental initiatives and international efforts against climate change.

The Governor was also briefed on the Abu Dhabi Pearl Project. She learned how local oysters are sustainably farmed in the Arabian Gulf to produce high-quality pearls. The Abu Dhabi Pearl Centre is unique in the region for using sustainable techniques for pearl production.

This visit highlights the importance of protecting biodiversity and sustaining ecosystems, especially in coastal areas crucial for environmental preservation. It signifies ongoing collaboration between Japan and the UAE in addressing global environmental challenges together.
