Thailand Embassy Collaborates To Boost Health And Wellness Services In Muscat
For decades, Oman and Thailand have shared a profoundly intertwined relationship spanning culture, business, and knowledge exchange. In a significant step to further enhance these bilateral relations, the Thai Embassy in Muscat has announced a collaborative initiative with Thailand's leading hospitals to establish private rehabilitation and physiotherapy centres in Oman's capital. This move aims to introduce Thailand's acclaimed healthcare services to the Omani populace, leveraging the Southeast Asian nation's medical expertise.
Ek-Att Thitaram, the chargé d'affaires at the Thailand Embassy, highlighted the superior standards of Thai hospitals, known for their advanced technology, high-quality service, and affordability. "We are excited about the potential to provide top-notch health and wellness services, including specialised treatments such as brain surgeries, to the people of Oman," Thitaram expressed, emphasizing the ambition behind this collaboration.
The establishment of these medical centres is part of a larger effort by the Thai Embassy to promote Thailand's diverse services, products, and culture within Oman. Aiming to bolster trade figures and encourage more Omani tourists to visit Thailand, the embassy is focused on showcasing the very best of what Thailand has to offer.
Tourism has always been a pivotal element of the Thailand-Oman relationship. In 2023, the number of Omani tourists visiting Thailand exceeded 86,000, facilitated by a visa exemption policy allowing a stay of up to 30 days. Omani travellers primarily seek medical and dental treatments in Thailand, including complex procedures and general health and wellness services.
Conversely, Thai nationals visiting Oman are also granted a visa exemption for stays of up to 14 days, which encourages cultural and commercial exchanges between the two countries. Nearly 1,000 Thai tourists visit Oman annually, attracted by its natural scenery and hospitable culture.
Cultural Exchanges and Future Plans
On the cultural exchange front, the Thai Embassy has plans to conduct Thai food cooking classes in partnership with local Thai restaurants. These sessions aim to target professionals in the hospitality and food industry, members of the diplomatic community, and will eventually be open to the broader public. "Food is a wonderful bridge between cultures, and we believe these classes will enhance mutual appreciation and understanding," stated the chargé d'affaires.
The Thai Embassy's efforts in promoting cultural exchange have already seen success with the organization of events such as the 'Thai Weekend in Muscat 2023', held at Muscat Grand Mall. The event is scheduled to return in July this year, promising an even more vibrant celebration of Thai culture, underscoring the ongoing commitment to strengthening the ties between Oman and Thailand.
