Tawazun Council Awards AED 1.3 Billion Contract For Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessels
Al Seer Marine and Damen International, based in Abu Dhabi, have announced a major contract with Tawazun Council. This joint venture will produce advanced Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) worth AED1.3 billion. The project aims to enhance the UAE's naval capabilities over four years, focusing on improving maritime security.
The OPVs will feature state-of-the-art naval technology and sophisticated designs. These vessels are intended for various missions, including Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) patrols, surveillance, and interdiction against piracy and smuggling. They will also support maritime law enforcement, coast guard duties, search and rescue operations, and disaster relief efforts.

Guy Neivens, CEO of Al Seer Marine, stated that "Tawazun's confidence in the JV capabilities marks a significant milestone, showcasing the strength of our shipbuilding expertise combined with comprehensive fleet support." He emphasised their commitment to strengthening the UAE's industrial base by producing globally competitive solutions locally.
The contract includes an Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) package to ensure optimal fleet performance. This framework covers predictive maintenance planning, tailored training analysis, and proactive inventory management. The ILS is designed to keep vessels mission-ready with minimal downtime.
This collaboration between Al Seer Marine, Damen International, and Tawazun Council represents a key development in the UAE's maritime defence sector. By providing advanced naval vessels and extensive support services, the joint venture aims to bolster the UAE's maritime security and safeguard national interests.
The project underscores the importance of maintaining high operational readiness for national security. The vessels built under this contract will adhere to stringent standards to ensure they meet these requirements effectively.
This initiative highlights the UAE's ongoing commitment to enhancing its maritime capabilities through strategic partnerships and investments in cutting-edge technology. As a result, the nation is poised to strengthen its position in regional maritime security significantly.
