Saudi Arabia: Tarshid Launches Energy Efficiency Project At Irada Hospital Aligning With Global Standards

The National Energy Services Company (Tarshid) and Al-Amal Mental Health Hospital (Irada) have embarked on an energy efficiency project. This initiative targets 19 buildings within the hospital's facilities in Al-Qurayyat. The primary goal is to enhance energy efficiency and reduce consumption, aligning with international standards.

According to Waled Al Ghreri, CEO and Board Member of Tarshid, the project is based on thorough on-site surveys and technical studies. These assessments identified ten key measures for energy savings. The focus is on optimizing control systems, air conditioning, and lighting.

Specific improvements include upgrading the chiller control system and implementing scheduling for air handling units. Variable frequency drives (VFDs) will be installed to enhance performance. Outdated air conditioning chillers will be replaced with more efficient models.

The building management system will also see upgrades. It will be integrated with new cooling and air conditioning systems to optimize their performance. Additionally, lighting systems will transition to high-performance, energy-saving LED lights.

This project is expected to cut annual electricity consumption by 20%. Usage will drop from 4.5 million kilowatt-hours to 3.7 million kilowatt-hours annually. This reduction translates into saving over 1,500 barrels of oil equivalent each year.

Moreover, carbon emissions are anticipated to decrease by approximately 500 metric tons annually. This reduction is comparable to planting over 9,000 seedlings each year.
