Tadweer Group Joins United Nations Global Compact To Enhance Sustainability Efforts

Tadweer Group, the exclusive waste management authority in Abu Dhabi and part of Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company (ADQ), has joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). This step underscores Tadweer Group's dedication to innovative circular economy solutions, aligning with the UAE’s Net-Zero 2050 Strategic Initiative and the Green Agenda 2030.

The UN Global Compact, established in 2000, is the largest voluntary corporate sustainability initiative globally. It unites over 20,000 companies from more than 160 countries, supported by 60 local networks. By joining, Tadweer Group commits to implementing the UNGC’s Ten Principles, focusing on environmental stewardship and reporting progress annually.

Tadweer Group Joins UN Global Compact

Ali Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and CEO of Tadweer Group, stated, "Joining the UN Global Compact is a natural extension of our mission to lead sustainable waste transformation at scale. We see waste not as an endpoint, but as a beginning, a resource with untapped potential to drive clean energy, support green industry, and create shared value. Our participation affirms that Tadweer Group’s growth will always be aligned with the highest global standards of environmental and social responsibility."

Tadweer Group's membership in the UNGC aligns with its international engagement efforts. The organisation is expanding its role in unlocking waste value through projects like one of the region’s most advanced Waste-to-Energy (WTE) facilities. This facility aims to generate power for over 250,000 homes annually.

Additionally, Tadweer Group operates Abu Dhabi’s largest Material Recovery Facility (MRF), enhancing recycling and reducing landfill use. The group is also advancing waste-to-resource innovation through initiatives such as methane-to-graphene conversion and developing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), contributing to decarbonisation and clean energy goals.

This move coincides with the UAE's increased global climate engagement. Events like COP30 provide platforms for dialogue and action. As a UNGC participant, Tadweer Group can better represent the UAE’s circular economy model globally and form strategic partnerships that extend impact across borders.

Global Climate Engagement

Through this initiative, Tadweer Group strengthens its contribution to national sustainability while embracing its role in shaping climate-forward growth. The group is developing a waste management model based on defined values, measurable actions, and international collaboration to support local priorities and global sustainability efforts.

Tadweer Group's commitment reflects a broader vision for sustainable development in Abu Dhabi. By aligning with international standards and engaging in innovative projects, it aims to set an example for effective waste management practices worldwide.
