Tabreed And Johnson Controls Sign Agreement To Develop Next-Generation Cooling Technologies

Tabreed and Johnson Controls have entered into a framework agreement to advance cooling technologies. This partnership aims to enhance energy efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. It supports regional climate neutrality strategies and corporate ESG goals. The focus is on deploying advanced centrifugal chillers to boost system efficiency and minimise environmental impact, using Johnson Controls’ platforms for real-time optimisation and reduced downtime.

The collaboration centres on two main areas. First, Johnson Controls will supply large-capacity chillers with variable-speed drives and modular systems. These are designed to cut energy use and maintenance needs while optimising space in Tabreed’s district cooling plants. Second, end-to-end lifecycle services will include design support, commissioning, performance guarantees based on KPIs, upgrades, retrofits, and remote monitoring through network operations centres.

Tabreed Partners with Johnson Controls on Cooling Tech

The agreement was formalised at a ceremony in Abu Dhabi attended by Tabreed’s CEO Khalid Al Marzooqi and Johnson Controls’ Vice President Richard Lek. Al Marzooqi expressed that this marks a new phase of growth for Tabreed, aligning with their long-term strategy. He noted the agreement secures essential equipment supplies for large-scale infrastructure projects.

This partnership aligns with global sustainability goals by prioritising energy-efficient technologies with low emissions. It also involves adopting refrigerants with less environmental impact and applying circular-economy principles that link plant-level improvements to broader policy decarbonisation outcomes.

Richard Lek highlighted the benefits of this collaboration, stating it allows them to showcase how proven technologies can enhance district cooling performance at scale. He emphasised the importance of meeting cooling demands in rapidly urbanising areas while reducing power consumption and emissions.

Al Marzooqi added that combining Tabreed’s operational excellence with Johnson Controls’ advanced chiller technologies will bring significant benefits to customers and communities through unmatched energy efficiency and reliability.

The collaboration aims to demonstrate how data-driven services can elevate district cooling performance. This is crucial as urbanisation increases demand for efficient cooling solutions that also improve quality of life by reducing power consumption and emissions.

The partnership covers multiple long-term projects under development or planned by Tabreed. It ensures both parties benefit from secured supplies of critical equipment necessary for large-scale infrastructure projects.

This strategic alliance is expected to deliver measurable gains in energy efficiency while supporting regional climate neutrality efforts. By focusing on next-generation technologies, the partnership seeks to reduce climate impact significantly.
