Sverdlovsk Region Strengthens Ties With UAE At World Rehabilitation Congress 2024

The World Rehabilitation Congress 2024 in Abu Dhabi is centred on the theme "Work and Employment." It gathers international participants to tackle the challenges of integrating People of Determination into the workforce. The event aims to develop solutions that enhance job opportunities for these individuals globally.

A delegation from Russia's Sverdlovsk region, including government officials and business leaders, is participating to strengthen ties with the UAE. Elmira Tukanova, Director of the Department for Tourism Development and the Hospitality Industry in Sverdlovsk, highlighted their mission: "We are here to exchange insights, and learn from the UAE's experience in promoting accessible tourism."

Tukanova stressed the importance of ongoing collaboration between Sverdlovsk and the UAE. She noted that after the UAE's role as a partner country at Russia's Innoprom exhibition, it became crucial to continue this cooperation. Adopting UAE's best practices for inclusive tourism is a priority for their region.

Nina Ruchkina, a fashion house founder and delegation member, shared her social initiative aimed at empowering children with disabilities. "In Yekaterinburg [city and the administrative centre of Sverdlovsk], we launched a project where children with disabilities create artwork that we then use to design scarves," she explained.

Ruchkina elaborated on how this project not only engages children creatively but also instills a sense of value. "This initiative brings more than joy; it provides them with an opportunity to contribute to the business world," she said. The scarves and other products like souvenirs help them earn independently.

Looking ahead, Ruchkina mentioned a new project in development for UAE National Day. "For UAE National Day, we are preparing a special scarf design that blends Russian and Arab motifs, symbolising the union of our cultures through fashion," she revealed.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

The Sverdlovsk delegation remains committed to enhancing partnerships with UAE counterparts. They aim to implement successful UAE practices in inclusive tourism and accessibility within their own region. This focus underscores their dedication to fostering meaningful international cooperation.
