UAE Universities Open Registrations For Annual Sustainability Drive Towards Net Zero

The Institute of Environmental Management and Sustainability (IEMS) Academy, in collaboration with Ajman University's College of Business Administration, has launched the second edition of its annual sustainability competition for universities. The event aims to inspire students to develop innovative solutions that could transform the sustainability landscape in the UAE.

Participants will embark on a transformative journey aimed at driving innovations in sustainability and the net-zero transition. The competition, themed "Pathway to Net Zero: Innovating for a Sustainable Future," runs from 2nd September to 30th September for registration and continues until early November.

UAE's Net Zero University Challenge

This year, university students across the UAE are eligible to participate, with both individual and group registrations accepted. Individual registrants may be grouped based on similar backgrounds by the competition committee at Ajman University. Students will undergo training programmes on "Net-zero transition" and "Sustainability & Innovation" to understand the feasibility of net-zero goals across various business sectors.

Hind Al Huwaidi, Chief Executive Development Officer at BEEAH, stated, "At BEEAH, we want to inspire the next generation of sustainability leaders to act as a positive force in tackling contemporary net-zero integration challenges. In partnership with Ajman University, this competition not only provides students with valuable knowledge and skills but also empowers them to make a tangible impact on our journey towards a net-zero future and accelerate sustainable development."

Students will receive expert training from IEMS Academy professionals, focusing on practical implications and outcomes of their ideas. Additionally, workshops with university faculty and mentors at Ajman University will help student groups refine their concepts further.

Akinola Fadahunsi, Professor and Dean of the College of Business Administration at Ajman University, remarked, "This competition is a way to encourage students to put their knowledge and ideas into actionable solutions that have the potential to turn net-zero challenges into opportunities that can benefit societies in Ajman, the UAE and beyond."

Diverse Panel of Judges

The competition features a diverse panel of judges comprising experts from BEEAH and management from Ajman University. This panel will meticulously review and assess projects, ensuring a well-rounded evaluation that considers both academic rigour and real-world applicability. This approach aligns with the competition's core focus on fostering sustainable solutions.

By participating in this competition, students gain valuable insights into sustainability practices while contributing innovative ideas that could shape a more sustainable future for the UAE. The event highlights the importance of education in driving forward-thinking solutions for environmental challenges.
