Suqia UAE Reports Over 943,000 Beneficiaries From Water Projects In Tanzania

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE), announced that Suqia's projects in Tanzania have benefited over 943,000 individuals. These initiatives, supported by a grant from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aim to supply clean drinking water to more than one million people in Tanzania. Completion is anticipated by the third quarter of 2025.

The announcement was made during the second Board of Trustees meeting for 2025. Attendees included Fahad Abdelrahman bin Sultan, Deputy Secretary General for Development and International Co-operation at Emirates Red Crescent; Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Development Affairs and International Organisations; Nasser Lootah, Executive Vice President of Generation at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA); Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development & Excellence at DEWA; Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA; and Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Suqia UAE.

Suqia UAE Aids Over 943,000 in Tanzania

The meeting also highlighted the recognition of 12 winners from eight countries in the fourth cycle of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award. This award is overseen by Suqia UAE and carries total prizes worth US$1 million across four main categories. H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum honoured these winners for their contributions.

Al Tayer emphasised their commitment to following the path set by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. "We follow the noble path established by the Founding Father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, extending a helping hand to those in need around the world," he stated. The foundation aims to create a sustainable impact on millions by promoting innovative solutions to global water challenges.

The Board reviewed Suqia’s past achievements in fostering innovation in sustainable water solutions. Since its inception in 2015, Suqia UAE has implemented over 1,000 sustainable water projects benefiting approximately 15 million people across 37 countries. These efforts focus on advancing humanitarian initiatives to provide clean water to disadvantaged communities worldwide.

Al Tayer reiterated that their mission is rooted in Emirati values of generosity and giving. The foundation seeks to address global water issues through humanitarian initiatives that embody these principles. By doing so, they aim to make a positive difference in people's lives globally.
