Sultan Bin Ahmed Explores Research Institute For Humanities And Social Sciences At University Of Sharjah

H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, visited the Research Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (RIHSS) at the University of Sharjah. The visit aimed to explore the institute's role in promoting social sciences and humanities through various applications in life, social innovation, human behaviour, and community development.

The institute features a smart hall equipped with modern technology, accommodating around 40 students for interactive learning. This space supports both internal and external educational activities. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed toured this facility, observing its state-of-the-art equipment designed to enhance student engagement and learning experiences.

During his visit, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed engaged with members of the institute to understand its operations better. He learned about the Family and Child Studies Centre, which focuses on strengthening family units by applying research findings to develop effective policies and practices. This centre aims to foster strong family bonds within communities.

The Emirati Youth Research Fellowship Program was another highlight of the visit. This pioneering initiative in the Arab world is designed to equip young Emiratis with research skills and experience. It provides a platform for youth to channel their energy towards community benefit, enhancing their capabilities for future contributions.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed also received updates on the Sharjah Centre for Public Opinion Polls (SCPOP). This centre is dedicated to collecting, analysing, and presenting data to decision-makers, offering insights that aid government agencies in developing efficient solutions.

The Research Translation Unit (RTU) at RIHSS was another point of interest during the visit. The RTU promotes high-quality Arabic research publications by faculty members, making these findings accessible globally. This unit plays a crucial role in disseminating valuable research work beyond regional boundaries.

International Partnerships

In addition to exploring local initiatives, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed met representatives from Tsinghua University. Ranked tenth globally and first in China, Tsinghua University discussed potential collaborative research efforts with the University of Sharjah. These discussions aimed at fostering international partnerships that could enhance research capabilities at both institutions.

A video presentation provided Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed with key statistics about RIHSS. The institute boasts 170 affiliated researchers, 50 research assistants and postdoctoral researchers, along with 21 research groups. It houses specialised laboratories covering areas like social sciences, quantitative and qualitative research, art and design, and crime scene analysis.

The Centre for Applied Sociology at RIHSS seeks to become a leading hub for research and community service both locally and internationally. It aims to bridge academic knowledge with practical applications that benefit society at large.

This visit underscored H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed's commitment to advancing education and research in Sharjah. By supporting initiatives like those at RIHSS, he aims to strengthen ties between academia and community development while fostering international collaborations that enrich local expertise.
