Sultan Bin Ahmed Visits Kanaf Centre In Sharjah To Enhance Child Protection Services

H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Judicial Council, emphasised that Sharjah prioritises human dignity and quality of life. The focus is particularly on children and youth, who are vital to society's future. This was highlighted during his visit to the "Kanaf" centre in Sharjah's Barashi area, which supports child victims of physical abuse.

The "Kanaf" centre is unique in the region, offering legal, psychological, and social support under one roof. It simplifies procedures and fosters trust among children and families. H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed toured the centre, learning about the "Child Journey," which includes evaluation, investigation, psychological support, and treatment stages.

During his visit, H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed stated, "The child is a great humanitarian project that requires care and the concerted efforts of all institutions and entities to ensure a social environment that respects their childhood and nurtures a sense of belonging and reassurance." He stressed that child protection is a civilisational responsibility in Sharjah.

The centre operates under the guidance of H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs. It opened officially in 2024 and is managed by the Child Safety Department. The centre integrates global best practices with local cultural contexts to provide comprehensive child support services.

H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed described "Kanaf" as an integrated model reflecting Sharjah’s vision for addressing children's needs. He noted its commitment to sustainability and service development according to international standards. The centre collaborates with various entities like police, social services, health, and education bodies.

A visual presentation revealed that since its inception in 2019, "Kanaf" has supported 20,583 guardians and 35,317 children. It involved 6,639 specialists across 532 initiatives and sessions. The centre also engages in research and campaigns to enhance child safety.

Field Efforts and Community Engagement

The Chairman learned about field efforts involving 98% participation from children in Sharjah’s public nurseries. This included 714 guardians and 856 children across the emirate's cities. Such initiatives aim to fulfil the centre's goals while promoting child safety through studies and campaigns.

Accompanying H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed were key officials including Major General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer from Sharjah Police; Ahmed Ibrahim Al Meel from Social Services; Judge Dr. Mohammed Obaid Al Kaabi; Dr. Muhadditha Al Hashemi; Counselor Anwar Amin Al Harmoudi; Hassan Yaqoub Al Mansouri; and Hanadi Al Yafei.

The visit underscored Sharjah’s dedication to creating an environment where children's psychological and social needs are met comprehensively. By integrating various support systems under one roof at "Kanaf," Sharjah aims to ensure a safe space for children affected by abuse.
