Sultan Bin Ahmed Celebrates Achievements At UOS Postgraduate Graduation Ceremony For Spring 2025

H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah (UOS), attended the Spring 2025 graduation ceremony for postgraduate students at University City Hall. A total of 437 graduates were honoured during this event. The ceremony began with the UAE national anthem and a recitation from the Holy Quran, setting a solemn tone for the occasion.

Sheikh Sultan highlighted UOS's achievements, noting that it recorded 23 major accomplishments this year. Among these was receiving a Platinum Rating with a perfect score in the STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System) by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. This made UOS the first university in the Middle East to receive such distinction.

The university also excelled in various rankings and awards. It ranked highest among UAE universities in social sciences, humanities, and arts in the 2025 Times Higher Education rankings. Additionally, UOS won the Best Entity in Governance Implementation award at the Tamayuz Award, further cementing its reputation for excellence.

In sports, UOS teams performed exceptionally well. The football and volleyball teams secured first place in their respective championships. Meanwhile, the basketball team achieved second place, and the squash team took home gold. Furthermore, UOS has been chosen to host the World University Powerlifting Championship in 2026.

Sheikh Sultan praised graduates for their knowledge and dedication while acknowledging H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, as UOS's founder. He described UOS as a beacon of knowledge and learning. He also commended faculty members for their role in shaping students' success through recently approved development projects born from faculty meetings.

Addressing families of graduates, Sheikh Sultan stated: "Today is not just your children’s graduation—it is the day your joy is fulfilled." He concluded by congratulating graduates on their perseverance and urged them to pursue dreams with continued commitment.

Chancellor's Address

Professor Dr Issam Al-Din Ibrahim Ajami, Chancellor of UOS, expressed pride in graduates' achievements while thanking Sheikh Sultan for his support. He praised Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi for building an ambitious university celebrating success.

Dr Ajami emphasised that UOS postgraduate programmes are more than academic stages; they are journeys in research and innovation preparing graduates as leaders contributing to sustainable development. He highlighted linking academic output to practical societal impact while urging graduates to apply skills towards building knowledge economies addressing national challenges.

Graduate Reflections

Speaking on behalf of graduates, Sheikh Dr Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi expressed pride completing their academic journey at UOS while thanking faculty members for instilling values ethics-driven research.

He addressed fellow graduates saying: "Knowledge is key to this world path hereafter; walk swiftly towards progress excel fields raise homeland stature achievements." Quoting advice from Ruler Sharjah: "Continue scientific research mission noble path learned."

Diverse Academic Backgrounds

The ceremony saw participation from various academic colleges including Sharia Islamic Studies Arts Business Administration Engineering Health Sciences Law Communication Medicine Dental Medicine Pharmacy Sciences Computing Informatics Public Policy.

A total of 119 students received doctoral degrees; 302 earned master’s degrees; 16 completed postgraduate diplomas showcasing diverse academic backgrounds represented among attendees.
