GCC Interconnection Authority And EPRI Strengthen Collaboration For Enhanced Electrical Infrastructure

The GCC Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) have enhanced their partnership by amending their existing framework agreement. This amendment signifies the GCC countries' dedication to improving their electrical infrastructure's efficiency and reliability. The agreement was signed by Eng. Ahmed Ali Al-Ebrahim, CEO of GCCIA, and Dr. Arshad Mansoor, President and CEO of EPRI, during EPRI’s Annual Board of Directors Meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The updated agreement introduces a focus on operational flexibility practices. This aims to deliver greater economic and reliability advantages for the GCC member states. A multi-year roadmap will be developed to integrate findings from joint studies by EPRI and GCCIA into national operational frameworks. This roadmap will particularly emphasize integrating renewable energy and expanding advanced grid technologies.

GCCIA and EPRI Enhance Energy Collaboration

Both organizations highlighted that this roadmap would enhance Gulf power networks' ability to withstand extreme weather conditions. It will also improve energy-storage systems' performance and support the development of better protection and power-quality solutions. Additionally, AI-driven load forecasting will be advanced, strengthening regional control centers' preparedness and increasing cross-border supply reliability.

Under the revised framework, GCCIA and EPRI will work together on developing resource-efficiency methodologies. They will conduct regional resilience assessments and perform advanced analytical studies to optimize grid performance. This collaboration aligns with the GCC's clean-energy objectives while ensuring economic efficiency, operational dependability, and stronger regional coordination.

This renewed partnership reflects both organizations' shared vision to advance regional power integration. By leveraging global expertise, they aim to build a more secure and sustainable energy future for the Gulf region.
