Stem Cell Therapy Demonstrates Significant Results In Treating Chronic Lower Back Pain

Innovative treatments for chronic lower back pain caused by facet joint arthritis have been unveiled by the Abu Dhabi Stem Cells Center and Yas Clinic Khalifa Hospital. This condition impacts up to 45% of those with chronic lower back pain. The new treatment findings offer fresh hope for patients struggling with this debilitating issue.

Dr. Maysoon Al Karam, Chief Medical Officer at Abu Dhabi Stem Cells Center, highlighted the effectiveness of two treatments: Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cells (UC-MSC) and Peripheral Blood-Derived Monocytes. She noted that facet joint arthritis, which leads to spine joint deterioration, has limited effective treatment options. These results are significant for patients who haven't found relief through other methods.

Stem Cell Therapy for Chronic Back Pain

The study revealed a stark contrast between the two treatments. Patients receiving UC-MSC therapy experienced substantial improvements, including a 61% reduction in pain levels and a 58% decrease in disability scores within just four weeks. "These results represent a revolutionary innovation in regenerative medicine," stated Prof. Yendry Ventura, CEO of ADSCC.

Prof. Ventura added that the superior outcomes with UC-MSC therapy align perfectly with their mission to provide innovative, evidence-based treatments. This positions ADSCC at the forefront of cell therapy for orthopedic conditions and opens up new possibilities for patients who have exhausted other treatment options.

Follow-up examinations showed impressive improvements in functional mobility among patients. They reported significant increases in spinal movement and found it easier to perform daily activities. The Oswestry Lower Back Pain Questionnaire confirmed these gains, with disability scores dropping from an average of 32% before treatment to just 13.4% after four weeks.

"These early results are incredibly encouraging," said Dr. Amr Shwarbi, neurosurgeon and participating researcher. "The superior outcomes in the UC-MSC group—especially the improved range of motion and reduced disability—suggest that this treatment could be a more effective solution for those with chronic back pain."

Commitment to Advancing Regenerative Medicine

This achievement underscores ADSCC's dedication to advancing regenerative medicine through cutting-edge science and collaborative expertise. The multidisciplinary approach involving orthopedic consultants, neurosurgeons, and regenerative medicine specialists highlights the importance of teamwork in bringing innovative treatments to life.

The promising results from these treatments offer new hope for individuals suffering from chronic lower back pain due to facet joint arthritis, potentially transforming their quality of life significantly.
