Sport Impact Summit 2024 Inspires Global Leaders To Harness Sport For Sustainability And Health

The first Sport Impact Summit (SIS) 2024 took place with Sheikh Suhail Bin Butti Suhail Al Maktoum, Executive Director of the Sports Development Sector at the General Authority of Sports, in attendance. Over 200 global leaders and changemakers gathered to explore how sport can address major global issues like climate change, sustainability, and health.

Under the patronage of Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, UAE Minister of Sports, the summit was held in Dubai. It served as a platform for meaningful discussions, collaborations, and insights. A key feature was the UAE Ministry of Sport Masterclass by Oxford SDG and Sport Impact, focusing on sustainability leadership.

Sport Impact Summit Drives Global Action for Sustainability

The summit also highlighted stories from organisations such as McLaren, Deloitte, ATP Tour, Nitto, Sail GP, and Reflo. These stories emphasised innovation and environmental advocacy. The Moneyball Talk by Dureka Carrasquillo discussed finance in sports sustainability with experts from 1.5 Capital, SURJ, Udinese Calcio, and VTV Consulting.

Another significant session was the Player Power Panel with Justin Coghlan, Dominic Thiem, and Lucy Shuker. They discussed athletes' roles in promoting positive change. The Biodiversity Tour with Goumbook and Atlantis Dubai highlighted the link between sport and environmental care.

Mike Ford, Co-Founder of SIS, stated: "The overwhelming enthusiasm we’ve witnessed confirms that the sporting world is ready to take bold action to address sustainability and human health challenges." He announced future masterclasses across the region and the launch of SIS 2025 during Dubai Fitness Challenge.

Sean Morris, another Co-Founder of SIS, remarked: "The success of this summit has been a testament to the collective power of sport and the need for collaborative action." He noted that partnerships formed at the event will shape future sustainability efforts in sports.

Celebrating Sport's Role in Sustainability

The event concluded with a gala dinner and The Players Party featuring Sean Fitzpatrick, Chairman of Laureus. This gathering reinforced a commitment to championing sport's crucial role in advancing both planetary and human sustainability for the coming year.
