Space42, e& Partner On V2X Technologies For UAE's Smart Mobility Ecosystem

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been established between Space42, an AI-powered SpaceTech company listed on the ADX under the ticker SPACE42, and e&, the flagship telecom division of the global technology group e& based in the UAE.

This agreement aims to spearhead the development, testing, and implementation of Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technologies. These innovations are set to enhance autonomous mobility and smart city infrastructure throughout the UAE, marking a significant step forward in the nation's smart mobility ecosystem.

Partnership to Enhance V2X Technologies in UAE

The collaboration anticipates the integration of Space42's advanced Sovereign Mobility Cloud with e& UAE's cutting-edge 5.5G, edge computing, and secure communication protocols. This partnership is expected to pave the way for the future of autonomous mobility by co-developing pilot projects, regulatory frameworks, and business models.

These initiatives aim to facilitate connected and autonomous mobility across the nation, leveraging the strengths of both entities to create a smarter, more efficient transportation system.

Advancing the UAE's Smart Mobility Ecosystem

V2X technology is at the forefront of this innovation, enabling vehicles to communicate with everything in their environment—from other vehicles and road infrastructure to pedestrians. This interaction enhances situational awareness and traffic analysis, making driving safer and more efficient.

The technology also supports the over-the-air (OTA) update capability of autonomous vehicles (AVs), allowing for the continuous refinement of high-definition maps and the dissemination of information to nearby vehicles through edge nodes.

Hasan Al Hosani, CEO of Smart Solutions at Space42, emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating, "This partnership brings together innovation on the ground and in the cloud. By combining Space42's autonomous systems with e& UAE's advanced networks, we can turn vehicles into more intelligent, connected and embodied agents that move safely through our cities.

This work also builds on Space42's efforts to integrate space, AI, and mobility technologies into everyday life, advancing the UAE's vision of building sustainable, efficient, and autonomous transportation systems."

Similarly, Masood M. Sharif Mahmood, CEO of e& UAE, highlighted the collaborative vision, "Together with Space42, we're combining UAE-wide 5.5G, edge compute and secure communications with the Sovereign Mobility Cloud to let vehicles 'see' more, react faster and share trusted data with roads, signals and pedestrians. Our goal is to help regulators and city operators stand up safe, certifiable pilots that improve road safety and keep traffic moving, while laying a clear path from today's 5.5G to tomorrow's 6G era."

Key Areas of Collaboration

The MoU outlines three primary areas of collaboration: integrating connected infrastructure and networks, conducting autonomous and connected mobility pilots, and developing ecosystem and commercial models.

These will involve integrating terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks with Space42's Sovereign Mobility Cloud to facilitate large-scale V2X communication, testing AV shuttles, robotaxis, and logistics fleets within Abu Dhabi and other smart mobility zones in the UAE, and working with various regulatory and industry partners to establish nationwide standards for commercial rollout.

This partnership not only aligns with Space42's strategy to emerge as a leader in geospatial intelligence and AI platform services but also supports the UAE's National AI Strategy 2031. The strategy aims to position the nation as a global leader in artificial intelligence applications across multiple sectors, including next-generation mobility.

Since 2021, Space42 has achieved remarkable milestones, including logging over 600,000 kilometers of autonomous driving and safely completing 20,000 passenger trips through its flagship robotaxi service, TXAI. This progress demonstrates the viability of transitioning autonomy from pilot projects to public use with robust digital infrastructure support.

At the heart of this infrastructure is the Sovereign Mobility Cloud and the Digital Twin of Abu Dhabi, enabling real-time vehicle-environment interaction. Leveraging data from satellites, sensors, and city networks, Space42 enhances every journey into actionable intelligence, thereby strengthening the broader mobility ecosystem.
