Solar And Clean Energy Conference Launches In Abu Dhabi Amid Urgent Climate Action Calls

The Solar and Clean Energy Conference began at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, part of the World Future Energy Summit 2025 during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, opened the event. Officials, experts, and specialists from around the world attended to discuss energy sector advancements.

Al Olama highlighted the UAE's leadership in renewable energy. He stated that the country hosts three of the largest and most cost-effective solar plants globally. Additionally, the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant significantly contributes by supplying up to 25% of the UAE's electricity needs without emissions.

In his speech, Al Olama emphasised the urgency of transitioning to solar and clean energy. "We gather at a critical moment in history," he said. "The global community races against time to combat climate change." He stressed that moving towards clean energy is essential, not optional, urging accelerated efforts in this direction.

The UAE's National Hydrogen Strategy aims to position it as a leading producer and exporter of low-carbon hydrogen. This strategy is set to boost local hydrogen production to 1.4 million tons annually by 2031 and 15 million tons by 2050, supporting global hydrogen economy growth.

Al Olama mentioned that during COP28, the UAE led an initiative known as the UAE Consensus. This initiative calls for tripling global renewable energy capacity by 2030. It underscores their commitment to surpassing targets needed to address climate change impacts through international cooperation.

He stressed that achieving progress in clean energy requires mobilising resources and investments both nationally and globally. Strategic investments are crucial for reducing emissions and enhancing energy system resilience worldwide.

Importance of Partnerships

While technology and funding are vital, Al Olama noted they aren't enough alone. Collaboration is key to driving progress as challenges require partnerships fostering innovation and knowledge exchange. He encouraged active participation in conference discussions to share insights and form alliances shaping future energy sectors.

"We envision a future where affordable, sustainable, and secure clean energy powers every corner of our country," Al Olama stated. This vision demands dedication from governments, private sectors, and communities alike.

The conference serves as a platform for attendees to explore opportunities influencing future generations' energy landscapes. Al Olama urged participants to engage actively in sessions that could shape transformative changes within the industry.
