SNOC And Emerge Initiate Sharjah's Largest Solar Plant For Net-Zero Future

Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC) and Emerge Limited, a joint venture between Masdar and the EDF Group, recently broke ground for the largest solar installation in Sharjah.

The 60MWp ground-mounted solar PV plant at SNOC's Sajaa Gas Complex will produce enough clean energy to offset 66,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually. This reduction is comparable to removing over 14,600 cars from the roads each year.

This project underscores SNOC's dedication to reducing carbon emissions and achieving net-zero emissions by 2032. It will significantly cut SNOC's reliance on fossil fuels and provide a cost-effective source of renewable energy. The initiative aligns with the UAE's Net-Zero 2050 strategy, promoting sustainable energy sources for Sharjah and beyond.

Emerge will manage the entire project lifecycle under a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) agreement. This includes financing, design, procurement, construction, operation, and maintenance of the solar modules for 25 years.
