Shurooq Commences Fencing Works To Enhance Conservation At Mleiha National Park
The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) has initiated the fencing of Mleiha National Park, spanning 34.2 square kilometres, in partnership with the Directorate of Public Works. This project aims to protect the region's historical and ecological assets. Scheduled for completion by late 2024, it underscores Sharjah’s commitment to conservation and sustainable growth, offering cultural and economic benefits to the local community.
Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, CEO of Shurooq, highlighted the importance of balancing conservation with community involvement. He stated, "The Mleiha National Park is a living testament to the cultural and natural heritage that defines our region. By establishing protective measures such as fencing, we are ensuring that this incredible landscape remains safeguarded so that future generations of locals and visitors alike can enjoy it while respecting its historical importance."

Designated under Emiri Decree No. 16 of 2024, Mleiha National Park serves as a protective zone for one of the UAE's oldest archaeological sites. The fencing marks a new phase in its development, aiming to secure its status as a UNESCO World Heritage nominee. This initiative ensures its lasting significance for future generations.
The park will be divided into three zones to balance preservation and exploration. The Core Conservation Zone will focus on protecting natural habitats and wildlife. Ecotourism Zones will offer eco-friendly accommodations, educational programs, and adventure activities. The Hybrid Zone will allow sustainable tourism alongside conservation efforts.
Al Qaseer further explained that the initiative is not about restricting access but protecting Mleiha's archaeological and ecological wealth. It allows the local community to benefit through sustainable tourism, educational programs, and new economic opportunities.
Mleiha National Park will also become a centre for scientific research and educational initiatives. This ensures active local community involvement in preserving the area's legacy. The park offers exceptional facilities highlighting its unique history, luxury, and adventure blend.
Unique Experiences at Mleiha
The Mleiha Archaeological Centre is a key attraction within the park. It houses artefacts dating back thousands of years, providing visitors with an educational experience into the region's ancient past. The Centre is crucial for scientific research and historical exploration.
Besides archaeological significance, the park features luxurious camping areas and adventure activities like 'Sky Adventures,' allowing visitors to view the desert landscape from above. These experiences aim to connect visitors with Mleiha’s natural beauty while balancing excitement with environmental preservation.
Mleiha’s facilities are designed to foster meaningful interactions between visitors, professionals, and local communities. Under 'Sharjah Collection,' hospitality offerings such as 'Al Faya Retreat' and 'Moon Retreat' promise luxury amidst tranquil desert surroundings.
Reflecting on its broader significance, Al Qaseer remarked that Mleiha is integral to this land's story. The fencing initiative ensures its history remains intact for future generations to experience, study, and cherish.
