Sheikha Latifa Launches 12th Edition Of SIKKA Art And Design Festival In Dubai

H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Chairperson of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) and a Member of the Dubai Council, recently inaugurated the 12th edition of the SIKKA Art and Design Festival. This event, under the theme "New Creativity, Same Path", is taking place until 3rd March in Al Shindagha Historic Neighbourhood. It highlights the emirate’s creative diversity, showcasing a blend of artistic and design excellence.

During her visit, Sheikha Latifa engaged with numerous artists from the UAE, the GCC, and further afield. She expressed admiration for their work and creativity, noting their vital role in enriching Dubai’s cultural scene with innovative and outstanding ideas. The festival features various venues like the "Digital Khaleeji House" and "Archiving the Now House", among others, each offering unique artistic experiences.

SIKKA Art Festival 12th Edition Launched

Sheikha Latifa emphasized that the SIKKA Art and Design Festival plays a crucial role in promoting innovation and artistic excellence. It supports Dubai’s creative economy and serves as an essential platform for artists to showcase their ideas globally. The festival aligns with the Dubai Creative Economy Strategy, aiming to position Dubai as a global hub for the creative economy by 2026.

This year’s festival sees participation from over 500 artists and creatives worldwide, offering a rich programme of exhibitions, performances, visual art showcases, and more than 200 workshops. It also includes sessions for dialogue and discussions, alongside initiatives that support Dubai’s cultural and creative industries.

The SIKKA Art and Design Festival is showcasing over 100 artworks across 14 houses and several courtyards. This edition introduces culinary art experiences inspired by architecture, Artificial Intelligence, and computational design. It also features a dedicated digital house for Khaleeji artists and ten new public art installations throughout Al Shindagha Historic Neighbourhood. Additionally, eight murals are displayed as part of Dubai Culture’s ‘Art in Public Places’ strategy, aiming to integrate art into the city’s fabric and enrich the community’s cultural experience.

The festival is a key event on the 2024 Dubai Art Season calendar, creating a sustainable environment that supports emerging talents. It aims to enrich the local artistic landscape while consolidating Dubai’s position as a global centre for art and culture, an incubator for creativity, and a thriving hub for talent.
