Sharjah Hosts High-Level Meeting With UK Embassy To Explore Cultural And Educational Partnerships
A recent meeting at Sharjah's House of Wisdom, hosted by the Department of Government Relations (DGR), focused on enhancing collaboration with a British Embassy delegation. Discussions centred on culture, education, and creative industries, aligning with Sharjah’s 2025 development goals. The aim was to deepen partnerships with UK institutions.
Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Government Relations, and Edward Hobart, British Ambassador to the UAE, led the meeting. Other attendees included Sarah Mooney, British Trade Commissioner for the Middle East and Pakistan; Sheikh Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, Director of DGR; Stacy Keating from the British embassy in the UAE; Amanda Buckley, Cultural Affairs Officer; and Martin Daltry from the British Council in the UAE.

Sharjah presented its upcoming government and cultural initiatives during discussions. The dialogue also explored collaboration opportunities in priority areas and information exchange regarding the UK’s 2025 programmes. Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi highlighted that His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi's vision is based on culture and knowledge as vital pillars for international relations.
He stated that cultural and academic cooperation is a sustainable path for building understanding between nations. He added, "Our meeting with the British Embassy delegation is an extension of this vision and a reflection of a deep-rooted belief that knowledge-based partnerships are the foundation of such engagement." These partnerships have enriched Sharjah’s society and strengthened its position as an international hub for research and education.
The delegates discussed collaboration prospects in higher education through joint academic programmes between British universities and those in Sharjah. These programmes would focus on media, engineering, and humanities fields, reinforcing Sharjah’s role as a regional knowledge hub.
The conversation also addressed support for creative industries through partnerships in arts, design, digital media, and content creation. Potential collaboration with the Sharjah Creative Quarter (SCQ) was another key focus. Established in January 2025, SCQ aims to enhance Sharjah’s creative economy by organising joint cultural initiatives.
Strategic Projects for Shared Goals
This high-level meeting exemplifies mutual commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation through strategic projects designed to achieve shared developmental goals. It creates new pathways for institutional integration and knowledge exchange.
The unique integration of Sharjah’s creative economy with its broader economic infrastructure enhances its capacity to host impactful collaborations with leading global institutions. This approach is clearly reflected in the outcomes of this meeting.
