Sharjah Taxi Sees 9.31 Million Passengers In 2025 And Outlines Hybrid Fleet Plan

Sharjah Taxi reports that its fleet carried more than 9.31 million passengers in 2025, representing growth of over 25% compared with 2024. The operator attributes this rise to wider service coverage, higher use of digital booking channels, and the emirate’s wider focus on safe and efficient public transport.

Of the 2025 total, 917,000 passengers booked trips through the "Yango" smart application, showing growing acceptance of app-based services. Another 760,000 passengers used services in the Eastern and Central regions, reflecting broader demand beyond the city centre and supporting Sharjah’s wider mobility and connectivity goals.

Sharjah Taxi reaches 9.31 million riders

Sharjah Taxi provides multiple service categories, including city taxis, airport taxis, women-only taxis, family taxis and luxury limousines. The company also runs Rafaq school transport for students, dedicated services for people with disabilities, and coverage across the Eastern and Central regions, forming an integrated transport network for residents and visitors.

Khalid Al Kindi, Managing Director, Sharjah Taxi, said, "These figures reflect the significant increase in demand for Sharjah Taxi’s services, underscoring the public’s confidence in the quality delivered by our vehicle fleet. This aligns with our vision of providing a distinguished transport experience that meets the needs of Sharjah Taxi users and reaffirms our commitment to the continuous development of the transport ecosystem and the enhancement of service standards." Al Kindi links the growth in passenger numbers with the company’s strategy to keep raising service reliability and safety.

Al Kindi explains that Sharjah Taxi has started operating environmentally friendly hybrid vehicles that use both fuel and electricity. This move is part of a structured plan to cut emissions from the fleet, support sustainable transportation across the emirate and keep improving service quality for all passenger segments.

Sharjah Taxi plans to convert its entire vehicle fleet to environmentally friendly hybrid vehicles by 2027. The programme aligns with the Government of Sharjah’s environmental direction and follows the vision and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi to position the emirate as an environmentally friendly destination.

Sharjah Taxi operations and corporate structure

Sharjah Taxi states that its main objective is to provide high-quality, innovative and comfortable services for users, supported by safe and reliable operations. These priorities reflect Sharjah’s broader strategy to promote sustainable and customer-focused transport solutions that enhance satisfaction and support the emirate’s long-term development agenda.

Sharjah Taxi is a subsidiary of Sharjah Asset Management, which acts as the investment arm of the Government of Sharjah. This ownership structure links the company’s operational plans, including fleet expansion and hybrid vehicle adoption, with wider government investment priorities in infrastructure, public services and environmental performance.

The 2025 passenger results highlight how demand is spreading across channels and regions within Sharjah, while the hybrid conversion roadmap shows a defined sustainability direction. Together, these trends indicate that Sharjah Taxi is aligning service growth, environmental goals and public expectations within the emirate’s evolving transport framework.
