The Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Centre "Tahkeem" has announced the launch of the sixth batch of its "Professional Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration" training programme. This initiative, in collaboration with the University of Sharjah's Centre for Continuing Education and Professional Development, will run from October 5th to November 10th, 2024. It targets professionals in legal, engineering, and financial sectors.

The programme aims to enhance participants' skills and knowledge in arbitration principles, procedures, and types within legal, engineering, and financial contexts. It combines academic learning with practical experience to ensure comprehensive training. The curriculum includes 15 courses covering various aspects of arbitration such as principles, elements, case procedures, evidence presentation before arbitration panels, and enforcement procedures according to international agreements.

Tahkeem's New Arbitration Diploma Batch

Dr. Ahmed Saleh Al-Ajlah, Director of the Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Centre, highlighted the programme's goal: "Through organising the Professional Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration programme, we seek to develop and enhance the practical and professional capabilities of the participants, equipping them with the scientific and practical experience and tools that help them enter the job market. This reflects the vital role of arbitration in ensuring economic stability and enhancing the services provided to the business sector in the country."

Al-Ajlah also noted that over five previous batches, more than 85 trainees have been successfully trained. These individuals have gained substantial knowledge in arbitration procedures and standards. He stated that this training aligns with global rules and standards, benefiting society at large.

Dr. Asmaa Nasiri from the University of Sharjah added insights into their collaborative efforts: "The centre organises several qualification and training programmes aimed at enhancing personal and cognitive skills across various fields including legal, engineering, and finance." She emphasised that these programmes are designed to equip participants with essential skills needed for their respective professions.

Course Content

The diploma programme includes lectures by professors and experts on topics such as arbitration system principles, types of arbitration, advantages, sources, elements, case procedures, ruling interpretation and correction. It also covers arbitration specific to engineering and financial disputes along with mechanisms for enforcing rulings.

Participants will engage in mock arbitration sessions where they can present their projects. This hands-on approach ensures they gain practical experience alongside theoretical knowledge.

Additionally, trainees will learn about initial procedures in arbitration disputes through to their conclusion. They will also understand how to annul or enforce an arbitration ruling while developing personal skills necessary for managing cases effectively.

The programme's comprehensive approach ensures that participants are well-prepared for roles as arbitrators or related positions within their fields. By focusing on both theoretical foundations and practical applications, it aims to produce highly skilled professionals capable of contributing significantly to their industries.

This initiative underscores Tahkeem's commitment to fostering professional development within key sectors by providing robust training opportunities aligned with international standards.
