Sharjah Ruler Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Hosts President Yoweri Museveni Of Uganda For Development Talks

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, welcomed Yoweri Museveni, President of Uganda, at Al Badi Palace. They discussed various topics, including education, culture, and community development. The meeting also covered industrial and economic fields, emphasising the importance of enhancing these sectors.

The discussions highlighted projects that Sharjah is implementing in African countries, particularly Uganda. These initiatives focus on education, culture, and infrastructure development. Such efforts aim to exchange knowledge and strengthen bilateral relations. They bring societal benefits by improving economic resources and fostering communication in educational and community areas.

His Highness received a detailed update on the Busoga International Polytechnic (BIP) Institute in Uganda. Established under his patronage in 2021, the institute offers specialisations in mechanical, electrical, and carpentry engineering. It aims to train students as skilled professionals. Since its inception, 254 technicians have graduated from the institute across various fields.

The Ruler of Sharjah and President Museveni reviewed plans for Kidepo International Airport in Uganda. This project aims to develop the local community by providing advanced services for travellers and boosting commercial activities. The airport will feature a 3.6-kilometre runway and a terminal accommodating 2 million passengers annually.

The planned airport is located in Uganda's Kidepo Reserve. It will enhance domestic and international travel services by connecting the region to global cities. Additionally, it will support trade, tourism, employment opportunities, and training for local professionals.

President Museveni expressed gratitude to Sheikh Dr. Sultan for his warm reception and significant support for development projects. He appreciated the focus on training students and youth to aid local communities, which positively impacts people's lives.

The meeting included several dignitaries: Rashid bin Ahmed Al Sheikh from the Emiri Court; Abdullah Sultan Al Owais of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce; Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi from Protocol; Abdullah Hassan Obaid Hassan Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to Uganda; Zaki Kebede, Ugandan Ambassador to UAE; Mohammed Ahmed Amin from SCCI; along with the Ugandan delegation.

This collaboration between Sharjah and Uganda underscores a commitment to mutual growth through education and infrastructure projects that benefit both societies economically and culturally.
