At the start of the meeting, H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed welcomed the Union’s President and members and acknowledged their recent efforts. The Ruler of Sharjah praised their role in developing the cultural landscape, supporting Emirati writers, and increasing both literary and cultural production across different formats and platforms.

H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan underlined that the quality of a publication is determined by depth and clarity rather than length. He stressed that strong content and suitable style are the real measures of value, and that publications should meet readers’ expectations while enhancing the reputation of Emirati writing at home and abroad.

During the exchange, H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan encouraged the Emirates Writers Union to diversify its programmes and activities. He called for initiatives that motivate writers to keep producing and publishing work, and that widen access to literature within the UAE and beyond regional markets.

The Ruler of Sharjah also placed special emphasis on emerging writers. H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan highlighted the need to identify and nurture young talents, help them refine their skills, and support them in offering new works that add lasting value to public and private libraries across the country.

Ongoing support for Emirates Writers Union and its objectives

H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan discussed with the Union’s Board several current cultural issues and challenges that face Emirati authors. The discussion covered how to broaden the reach of local publications, strengthen institutional backing for writers, and align Union initiatives with wider cultural objectives at national level.

The President and members of the Emirates Writers Union expressed their gratitude for H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan’s long-standing support and close monitoring of the Union’s work since its formation. They noted that the Ruler’s guidance and regular meetings help the Union operate with clear plans that serve the cultural sector, writers, and authors, and keep them progressing towards their stated goals.
